I had to come to a complete stop before merging onto the interstate. When the light signaled me to go, I hit the gas slightly to begin accelerating into my line to merge onto the highway. I slightly hit the gas pedal to do this, but my car responded by unexpectedly accelerating, even when I took my foot off of the gas. The car reached speeds of over 85 mph, despite me not having my foot on the gas. During this time, my brakes also failed to work. I was panicking hope I wouldn't hit anyone in traffic as I couldn't stop and my car continued accelerating and increasing in speed. I was terrified and luck there was a side of the highway (not a lane) of pavement that I could turn into a lane so I wouldn't hit anyone. I somehow thought to put the car in neutral, and when I did, my lights began blinking, car began slowing down, and then shut off. After it shut off, I couldn't put the car in park and had to wait approximately 10 minutes for the car to be able to turn back on and be able to put it in park. I could have been killed. I could have killed someone! What if that had happened in a child's school zone? What if I had gotten hit being forced to drive through an intersection with incoming vehicles having no idea what is happening to my car. I'm grateful I didn't kill anyone!!! Or get seriously injured or kill myself! Grateful I wasn't injured (due to my quick thinking to put the car in neutral and use the side of the highway and random grass patches along the side of the highway to slow down). I do not want to drive the vehicle again.

I took it to a nearby shop where I paid about $1200 to get it fixed. the only thing that happened, the problem was recreated and the mechanic reported the car almost took off into the shop window. Not sure what to do at this point. I bought this as a great used car option 3 months ago but absolutely do not feel safe driving that vehicle. It tried to kill me and no one that has worked on it has been able to fix it.
