Noticed a clanking noise in right front area. After investigation it was clear the right front coil spring was broken at 2 points. No rust or corrosion on the coil spring or the strut itself. This is a 2011 Hyundai Santa Fe Limited with 105,000 miles on it. The car has always been maintained and babied as I am a car guy owning classic cars.
The breaks are a DIRECT RESULT of bad steel, not corrosion. This is absolutely ridiculous happening to a vehicle in the condition of mine.
I contacted the local Hyundai dealer Laurel Hyundai in Johnstown, PA and was told there was no recall on the spring, and it was out of warranty.
They told me there was a recall to install a plastic protector around the spring to protect the tire if the spring would break. Why would Hyundai basically acknowledge the problem by installing a plastic sleeve, if there is not a common problem with the springs?
My wife drives a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport 2.0T loaded to the max that I purchased new for her. I will not entertain the idea of purchasing another Hyundai in the future!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
