7/23/025 015 Santa Fe Ultimate 3.3l V6,134,000 miles, original owner, wife 2 hrs out from house on hwy. Without any warning engine suddenly started making loud clanking noise. Moved off at next exit, stalled ,restarted, moved to closet gas station parking lot. Local mechanic could not find anything on his meter. Told not drive. Had similar vehicle at shop w/similar problem, new engine needed.
Towed to nearest Hyundai. Wife waited at gas station 2+ hours for me to come and pick up and bring home.
Afterwards I found online in early 019 Hyundai had intro'd a silent campaign (not recall) extending warranty to 150,000/15yrs due to engine problems, going back to 013.Verified by/VIN ours covered.
Getting new engine w/only 12,000/1yr warranty.
Had to get new engine at dealer near town where failed and towed.
Preferred done at the Hyundai where purchased, 5 miles up the road from where live. Told we could but had to pay the towing.
Offered loaner but we had to come and get it.2 hrs+drive. They would not deliver. Local Hyundai 5 miles from house could not provide loaner as all dealers are independent. So we had to rent at local agency.
When fixed they will not deliver. More inconvenience for us!
Could have been much worse. Thank God did not fail at night and or in a rural area putting wife at greater risk..
Sorry for owners not knowing of extended warranty campaign, paying for selling off at junk yard price. Worse,a single driver, family w/young kids, older folks, who have a problem at night and or in rural area breaking down.
Before towing to dealer I spoke w/Hyundai Customer Care 2 times. Explained concern, All they said was "sorry will report, someone would call me w/3 to 4 days". Has been wks of crickets..No mention of the 019 warranty campaign.Useless.Unethical!
SHOULD HAVE BEEN A PUBLIC RECALL!!!
Before breakdown we were discussed trading up for another Hyundai. Now not,not anytime soon!
As soon as fixed will unload for another brand.
