sunroof exploded sunroof exploded sunroof exploded sunroof exploded

Sunday evening 2/4, I was returning from the doctors office as my youngest son was ill. I, my wife and 2 boys were in the vehicle. Just as I exited off the highway, my son shouted, "what was that daddy"? I too heard something but I didn't hear it quite as loud as my son. He then noticed something protruding from the sheath that rolls back to show the sunroof. I then pulled over, got out and rubbed my hands on it and noticed something was there. This was strange to me now because nothing couldn't land inside unless through the roof. When I got home, i then inspected and notice a large gaping hole shattered the glass into pieces. Scratching my head, I could not understand how this could be. I searched to see if there was any offending missile that may have caused, but none. Which made sense because there is nothing overhead off the highway.

It was raining, and my wife and i fixed the hole with cardboard box wrapped in black trash bags, taped it down and waited the next day to make a complaint to Hyundai. Between this time, i went online to see if anyone reported this problem, and lo and behold i was not alone. Turns out this is quite a common occurrence. With that, I dropped the car to the Star Hyundai Service Dept in Flushing, NY. They took it in, and told me after 5 hours waiting that the warranty does not cover it. I made my feelings known not because that this appears to be a common occurrence, but the situation could have been worse and cause harm to my kids. I then went through my insurance and made a claim, however I do not want to absolve Hyundai of what i think should accept responsibility for what is clearly a manufacturers defective item.
