Santa Fe LX 3.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

I own a 2018 Hyundai Santa Fe 3.3L and the engine went at 70k miles. All of my service records are complete and no sludge was found in engine. The car has connecting rod bearing failure and I believe it also had excessive oil consumption because when my husband changed the oil the last time before engine went it was very low even though I still had 500 miles to go before next oil change. It happened quickly. First I noticed it started making a noise when I would accelerate and was very sluggish going up hills. Within a week the noise got very loud and it was apparent something was seriously wrong.

I was quoted 19.1k to replace short block. Hyundai and extended warranty are paying equal halves of replacement since I'm the second owner of the vehicle. They said it could take 6 months since there are a lot of engine replacements ahead of mine. The closest dealer to me couldn't even get me a service appointment for four months that's how backed up they are. Currently on month three but was told it should be done next week.
