Santa Fe Sport 2.4L 4 cyl

On a warm and sunny California Saturday, we were driving north on the 605 freeway and slowed down as the traffic started to back up and the engine stalled out without warning. I restarted the engine and began driving again and noticed the engine knocking and rattling. The engine performance began to drop and run very poorly as the engine noise got worse, check engine light started flashing. I used google to locate the nearest Hyundai dealership (Cardinale Way Hyundai of Glendora) and nursed it to their service drive. Left the vehicle over the weekend and waited for diagnoses to be performed on the following Monday.

Received the diagnoses from the dealership that the engine failed a main bearing test and that they submitted the information to the factory and are currently waiting for a decision from Hyundai.

I will update information as we go.

Update from May 6, 2022: Hyundai reviewed the case and analyzed an oil sample from my original engine to verify proper maintenance had been performed. They authorized replacing the engine under warranty with a new long block (short block including cylinder head).

I read that my vehicle has a lifetime engine warranty.
