The front subframe has a hole in it it rusted for some reason and upon research there was a recall on this particular issue but now there isn-€™t one. I went to two dealerships and they informed me that Hyundai had recalls on this issue that-€™s why I-€™m confused on why when I search by my VIN there isn-€™t any open recalls. Just because they isn-€™t any open recalls on this doesn-€™t mean that people aren-€™t still experiencing this issue.

There is a recall on 2004 Hyundai Sonata for bad subframes that has been an ongoing issue since at least 2001. The subframes rust and rot out! my 2004 Sonata has only 84K original miles and I recently took the car to a mechanic to replace a control arm and I was told that the repair could not be performed due to a rotted subframe! I called Hyundai motors of America and spoke with Consumer Affairs. I was told that according to the VIN number on my car that the recall was not on my car! there is a known issue and recall for the very same issue that I am having. How can they tell me that the recall is not applicable ? there probably has been thousands of 2001-2004 Sonata's that have had the subfram replaced under this recall.. I dont understand why Hyundai would not acknowledge the issue and cover it under the recall.. this car has 84660 miles and the car is otherwise mint ! not a speck of rust on the original body!

Sub frame on front passenger rusted and corroded. Caused damange to cv axle on same side. Caused alignment issues on front end. Causes tires to wear quickly, within a week. Anti theft system locks the car while driving and causes alarm to sound while driving and must open other doors and stop driving to stop the alarm from going off, headlights and dash lights and tail lights come on when brake is pressed and go off when brake is released but this problem only happens when headlights are not in use

Extensive undercarriage rust and corrosion even though vehicle looks brand new on body and interior and has <40,000 miles. Rust has extended into brakes submounts. Been told by mechanic it may be unsafe to drive as lower control arm or brake lines could corrode through and cause collision. Hyundai states is not covered under recall, even though purchased and driven in pa.

We own a 2004 Hyundai Sonata (109,000 miles) we had a front end collision with significant damage. Me and my wife suffered minor injuries and the airbags did not deploy. We found out on the internet that there are frequent complaints if this failure around the nation and also in many Hyundai models across multiple years. We are filing the complaint since the error is critical and seems to be systemic in Hyundai vehicles. We do not know if NHTSA handles cars that are over 100,000 miles but we felt a complaint was warranted since the consequence of the error is so extreme. We fear for our safety with this vehicle now! being a disabled veteran, on a fixed income, we find it difficult to accept that Hyundai takes no responsibility for this problem. Its not easy for us to replace the car.

This is a complaint, there was not an accident. There is a clunking noise from the rear suspension area. I have had the rear struts replaced and one bushing on the right side. I have had the vehicle checked by the dealer and four independent shops. The dealer says they cannot find anything wrong. The independent shops hear the noise but can't locate where it is coming from. On the internet there are many references referring to the issue. I am reluctant to travel a distance not knowing the cause of the noise. I have written to Hyundai. They say they do not have any record of complaints relating to this issue. I am in the market for a new car but would not sell or trade in not knowing the cause of this problem.
