Code B1448, testing revealed that the passenger seat sensor was not communicating. "airbag" light is on, passenger seatbelt light flashing when no passenger is in
- Houston, TX, USA
I own a 2006 Hyundai Sonata.while merging into the traffic. It was recently involved in a front end collision. The crash was so bad that it affected the radiator and even broke the coolant reservoir. The main frame of the car is also damaged. Even after this level of serious crash, the airbags still didn't inflate. No airbag was deployed. I suffered some injuries. This brings me to question the safety of this car. My model was premium sports package with 3.3 V6 engine.

My airbag light is illuminated and seat belt light blinks on the passenger side. It seems to be a known problem with the Hyundai Sonata. Dealer needs to recall the passenger seat/faulty sensor for the safety of the passengers
- Plymoth, MN, USA
Airbag light came on one day and just never went off. No accidents or damage to the car had been done prior. Went to other mechanics and they couldn't even figure out what the code on their diagnostic machines was. Hyundai checked it and told me it was the passenger buckle canister. That's fine, but 400,000 of these in the 06-08 Sonata models have now "failed" and at $100 for a diagnostics, then another $250 for a belt buckle repairs, I don't see how this could be wear and tear in the vehicle. Just seems like easy money for Hyundai. Hope this gets resolved soon.

My car has the same problem as this complaint number.10575493 I have been told by the dealer that I need to have the seat replaced which is a $1000+ repair. This should be a significant safety issue.
- Franklin, TN, USA
On or around 11nov12, the air bag warning light for the passenger seat became illuminated on my 2006 Hyundai Sonata. My local mechanic says the code represents a problem with the air bag sensor in that seat, and a recall was issued in 2008 for this problem. However, Hyundai claims that my vehicle is not covered by the recall despite its falling within the model years. The cost to repair could be in excess of $1,000us, and Hyundai will not cover this under the aforementioned recall notice. From reading online, this appears to be a prevalent issue with this model, and I submit that a new recall ought to be considered or the existing one ought to be expanded.

The air bag light on dashboard stayed on while driving. The front passenger seat belt light blinked on and off. The only way to make it stop was to fasten the passenger side seat belt. I took the car to dealership and was told that the OCS (occupant classification system) sensor in front passenger seat had "burnt" itself out. Failure to replace sensor would cause airbags to fail. Did some investigating and found that a recall had been issued for this sensor back in 2008. The dealership informed me that my car was "not" part of the recall. My VIN number was not "on the list". same make, same model--not part of recall"??? the repair cost $1000 for a new seat. How many other owners of Hyundai vehicles are "not" part of recalls"

I own a Hyundai Sonata 2006, and just before it got to 80,000 miles, the air bag light suddenly went on. It has stayed on for a week as of 9/25/10. I looked it up online and it seems many people have had this same issue with the Hyundai Sonatas and it is very costly to fix. I think this is a safety issue that should be looked into with Hyundai, if it happens repeatedly.

The contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the air bag light illuminates whether or not someone was seated in the front passenger seat. The dashboard that contained the air bag was cracked all around. The entire dashboard was replaced, but the passenger side air bag light still illuminates. In addition, the driver's side seat would not move up when adjusted and the driver's side window would not go down. They were both replaced under warranty. The contact is extremely dissatisfied that she purchased a brand new vehicle and has experienced major failures. The current mileage was 13,000 and the failure mileage was unavailable.
- Lehigh Acres, FL, USA
While not moving waiting to merge, the vehicle was hit from behind. When it was hit the driver's seat slid back and laid back so that the driver could not reach the wheel.
- Southlake, TX, USA
The contact owns a 2006 Hyundai Sonata. While making a left turn at 5 mph, the front passenger seat became unattached and flipped over. The passenger sustained back injuries. The vehicle was driven to the dealer and they stated that the bolts for the front passenger seat were missing. The current and failure mileages were 22,100.
