Sun visor fails to stay in up position on 2006 hyundia Sonata gls.

I have an '06 Sonata, and the driver side visor on it have broken. The plastic appears to be cracking around the edge where the metal bar enters the visor, leaving sharp edges exposed.

The drivers side sun visor on my 2006 Hyundai Sonata has failed for the second time.. it hangs down obstructing my view. This latest incident occurred on the NJ turnpike causing me to swerve to the shoulder of the road. A state trooper saw what happened and pulled in behind me. When I explained the situation he said that he knew of several other Sonata's with this problem. Two different dealers said that this is a common occurrence.

My driver-side sun visor in my 2006 Hyundai Sonata began hanging lower and lower until eventually it would neither stay up against the roof of the car or out toward the windshield. The visor now only hangs down, which obstructs my view when driving.

While driving a 2006 Hyundai Sonata with 30,000 miles, the driver side sunvisor just flopped down while driving on the interstate highway system on I-95 at 70 mph. There was no warning and the visor blocked the drivers vision because it would not return to the "up" position. Since the car was being driven on a vacation trip that had been previously planned and in a different location, it was not practical to go to a strange dealership. To solve the problem on the remainder of the trip, I used a "wooden clothspin" clipped to the visor and put the sunvisor to the left side of the vehicle and put the clothspin behind the driver side hand hold located on the inside of the roof of the car. Since the trip was going to be for about a week, I later used a rubber band to keep the visor high enough to enter an exit the driver door. The visor was replaced at the dealer back home and I became aware that this seemed to be a frequent problem on this car. This is a very dangerous condition and this Agency should look into this serious obstruction of driver visibility when this condition occurs. Of all the vehicles I have owned in the last 40 years, this is the only one to have this problem.

2006 Hyundai Sonata sun visors will not stay up. Falls down in line of vision. Started with passenger side and now the driver side. Dealer would not repair as I was <5000 miles over warranty. Based on internet this is a common issue with Hyundai's. seems some have been replaced 3 to 4 times.

Interior sun visors fail and do not stay in the up position. On going problem. An order for replacements has been back ordered according to the dealer because of the volume of failures. Because the visors drop down unexpectedly and do not stay in place when raised, there is a serious hazard from vision impairment. Driving with the visors down impairs vision out of the front of the vehicle, especially for taller drivers--because the visors block more of the normal range of vision. Because of this problem, the visors also cannot be effectively used as intended in adverse lighting conditions.

Broken sun visor bracket- Hyundai issued a tsb but will not replace visor if vehicle is out of warranty. When driving down the road I had to slam on the brakes to avoid a child chasing a ball which bounced across the street I hit my head on the edge of the sun visor which dangles down. My head would not have hit the visor if it was working properly. Also the visor dangles blocking your vision when the visor is not needed but it will not stay in the up position.

2006 Hyundai Sonata - driver side sun visor has broken for a 2nd time. Replaced the 1st one in October 08 at my expense, the part was $127. When I called to see if it was under warranty I was advised it was a cosmetic issue and not a safety issue. Now I am in need of another one, but I think I will do without because I don't want to pay for another one. The visor became difficult to move and as I lowered it I could hear it cracking inside. This is definitely a safety issue because the visor won't stay up or down, it falls into your line of sight.

I have a 2006 Hyundai Sonata and the arm on the sun visor cracked and the visor fell while I was driving, obstructing my view and nearly causing me to have an accident. I have since done some research, and Hyundai sent out a "technical service bulletin" to dealers/service & parts managers about this very problem in December of 2008. Customers weren't notified of the problem, and I have found that it has been an issue for a number of customers (there are message boards on Hyundai-forums.com about the issue). Some are getting it fixed under warranty (after it breaks & obstructs visibility), however, I just missed the warranty period and am expected to pay $83 just for the part to replace a safety issue that Hyundai has been aware of. Apparently it's not a big enough problem to them to warrant a recall.

2006 - 08 Hyundai Sonata sun visors break very early in car's life. Mine was around 41000 mi. Driver side visor broke when putting it down one morning in May 2009, now the passenger side visor is broken too. The plastic that surrounds the bar in the elbow just snaps and flies off, resulting in the visor flapping down limply in your face, blocking vision completely. This is a major safety issue and it is very common. Hyundai dealer acknowledged it is common and had plenty in stock. They agreed to replace 1st one for free, though not under warranty. I hope the same this time. Please look up "Hyundai Sonata visor" on your search engine. You will find perhaps hundreds of entries. I stopped at about 40 indiv. Entries with exactly this problem. You know those are only the ones who entered it, and they probably represent 1000 each.

The driver side sun visor on our 2006 Hyundai Sonata has suddenly stopped being able to be in the up position. It also cannot be placed totally down. As a result it is hanging down and impeding vision and hits me in the head if I lean forward to see traffic or move my head to look over before moving into another lane. I own a 2006 Hyundai Sonata and the sun visors on both sides of the vehicle do not stay in the up and stowed position which is a known problem with these vehicles and it is an extreme safety hazard when they fall down while the vehicle is in motion and block the drivers field of vision which is what happened to me and it nearly caused a major freeway accident. The visor fell down blocking my vision while I was on the I-15 freeway and it happened right as I was switching lanes during a very congested time of the day. As I tried to move the visor and took my eyes off the road and the traffic around and nearly caused a major freeway accident. I finally grabbed the visor and tore it out of the overhead mount and tossed it in the back seat! that is how extreme and hazardous these darn visors are to safe vehicle operation.
