Drivers side visor when in the up position, will not stay latched in catch and falls into driver's view. When placed in the down position, it falls down and obscures drivers view of road. I will take to dealer to have it repaired.

Bought a 2007 hyuandi Sonata gl and both driver and passenger sun visors have broken and flop down in your front of your face while driving. They will not stay up in their clips. This is a bad distraction that could lead to a potential accident because it causes limited visibility while driving.

Sonata

  • 64,000 miles
2007 Hyundai Sonata sunvisor 1. around June 25th, the passenger side sunvisor started falling down on its own, and not staying in the closed position. Then, the driver side started doing the same thing. 2. at first, I could push it back up, and it would remain up, however after a few weeks, it would not stay up at all. As soon as I would push it back up, it would fall back down. The consequences of this were as follows: When it falls down, it obstructs my line of vision. As you can imagine, the sunvisor suddenly dropping down while going 70mph is not a very safe act. This is a potential safety issue, and should be recalled asap. 3. nothing has been done so far, according to Hyundai, there is a complaint for this problem, but it is considered a tsb, or technical service bulletin. A tsb is only covered during the warranty period, and since my vehicle is out of warranty, I am out of luck. I, as well as many others feel this is a safety hazard, and should be considered a recall, not a tsb. It is my understanding that in the case that a problem is safety related, a recall is put out for it. I feel that Hyundai has "masked" this problem as a tsb so they can get out of fixing all these peoples visors. I request that NHTSA look into this matter.

The driver side sun visor of the 2007 Hyundai Sonata does not stay in the up position. It either falls at an angle pointing at the drivers head or falls straight down, obstructing the drivers vision.

Sonata

The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated the driver's side sun visor was hanging at a ninety-degree angle and would not remain in the upward position. The visor was obstructing the driver's view of the roadway. The dealer advised that the part needed to repair the visor would have to be ordered. The dealer did not provide an estimated time of arrival. The contact was awaiting repairs. The failure mileage was 48,000 and the current mileage was 48,500.

Sonata

  • 65,000 miles
I have a 2007 Hyundai Sonata. About 6 months ago the drivers side sun visor broke and will not stay in the upright or down position. The $120 to fix this is prohibitive, so I have tried using tape, velcro and string to keep it up. None of these work. This is a safety issue because my field of vision is severely limited by my visor.

My drivers side sun visor just flops. It started to do this a week ago and when it did this I was on the tobin bridge going into boston and I almost lost total visibility. There should be a recall on this! I see many people on here with this issue. At $120 for the part...that's not right!

problem #34

Jul 122010

Sonata

  • 53,000 miles
My sunvisor on the driver's side is floppy. There was no misuse, I was moving it to the windshield position and it became floppy for no probable reason. This is a serious issue. It causes distraction, obstructs vision and requires a hand to be removed from the steering wheel to keep it out of the way.

Sun visor is broken and falls in driver face. I see there are many other people with the same issues here. Was driving on the freeway at 65mph when this happened. Could have been very dangerous.

The contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated while driving at various speeds, the sun visors would fall down into the contact's view of the roadway. The contact used a pin to hold the visor into place. The dealer advised that the visor could be repaired at the contact's expense. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure occurred previously and the dealer made repairs to the visor in 2007. The failure mileage was 65,565.

I bought my 2007 Hyundai Sonata used at carmax in 2007. Within one month, the drivers side sun visor had broken. Because the car was under warranty, it was repaired without cost. Now, over the past month, the passenger side sun visor has begun broken as well. Because my car is over the 60K point, the local Hyundai dealership where the 1st visor repair was made, says it will be a $150 repair cost. I also called Hyundai usa- they claim there was no recall on this defect. I had a Nissan Sentra for 13 years, and I never had to replace the sun visors. There is obviously a safety issue with these visors, because I have seen several other complaints on the internet for the same issue. I hope that NHTSA will investigate this complaint and all the others and issue a ruling in favor of Sonata owners.

Sonata

The sunvisors in my 2007 Hyundai Sonata will not stay up and will not stay fully extended. They hang right in the line of sight. This is most certainly a mfg defect and a safety issue. I also have a 1995 GMC and 1967 Pontiac both still have their original sunvisors that work perfectly.

problem #29

Dec 102008

Sonata

  • 40,000 miles
Sun visor failure. The plastic surrounding the internal metal rod at the base of the rotational hinge has shattered. No tension exists in the visor anymore so it just freely dangles... right in the line of vision of the driver. It is an estimated $120 replacement; $120 I am not willing to spend on a two minute procedure. This replacement visor procedure should be a complimentary operation to protect the well-being of our drivers. I've noticed that dozens of other complaints have been filed to NHTSA expressing concern for this very topic.

Both sun visors fail, you hear a pop and then they will not stay up any longer. I have already paid $100 to have one replaced now the drivers side has broken. This is a 2007 Hyundai Sonata.

Then sun visor keeps falling down. Dealer replaced under warranty but this is a widespread problem. The sunvisor drops down while driving, in line of sight, and you can't see. This should be a recall as it is a safety matter.
