I had three kids in the back seat of my vehicle. When I contacted the dealership they told me it wasn't covered under warranty. I'm investigating recalls now.

We purchased what we thought was a great car that looked great. However, within two weeks we were at the dealer with a leaky sunroof, we needed raincoats to drive and the smell was awful. The car had a clicking noise in the steering wheel. Took the car to the dealer they supposedly repaired the sunroof, cleaned the car, and repaired the clicking noise.
Soon after that the car would not start, we had the car towed to the dealer, they again attempted to fix the problem. Then the car had a wooing noise from the right rear. Both axles had to be replaced. Then we would try and shut off the car and the car lights and dash would stay on like if the car was on. Took the car back to the dealer but the fix did not last long. Afterwards the car started not starting or not turning off. It was a nightmare, many times I was stranded with the kids on the side of the road or in a parking lot. The car was back at the dealer, mind you it's only been a couple of months since we purchased it. The shifter lever started coming apart and back to the dealer we went. After that the trunk wouldn't open, the rear lights didn't work, the gas lid didn't open and the remote stopped working. Again the car taken to the dealer. The car had an endless list of problems.
The last time at the dealer they replaced the starter, soon after that we were driving and the car slows down and shuts off. We pulled over to the side of the road. My husband gets our of the car and lifts the hood didn't see anything he gets back in the vehicle and tries the push start and white smoke begins to fill the car. We immediately get out and within seconds the car is engulfed in flames! Hyundai Alliance went back and forth for over a month asking the same questions over and over again and transferring me from department to department. They stated that after their investigation they were not responsible and that my insurance would cover the loss of the car, that they only worked with customers that had no insurance. Really ??? What car do you drive off a dealer without insurance? What about all the money I paid into the car?
The car burned due to a manufacturers problem or faulty installations by their own repairmen at the Hyundai Dealer. They need to be held accountable for their faulty cars! Consumers are paying the price.

Starter went out, it was covered under warranty. I was told there was a recall so it was replaced. 3 days later engine caught fire. I had it towed to LITHIA Hyundai in Fresno. He called 30 minutes later saying engine blew and I may have blew a rod. I said how did that happen on this new car when you told me when you fixed my car 3 days earlier that everything was okay including my oil. He said I would have to prove to him I had oil change. I said I have maintained my NEW car. He said is he just suppose to believe me and I then said how do I know something didn't go wrong when starter was replaced. He said we are not going to go back and forth. I am still under warranty. They refuse to do diagnostic. My insurance will not cover mechanical. My car that I'm still paying for is still sitting in service dept @ Lithia Hyundai.

After letting my car warm up in the driveway for about 5 minutes, I went outside cause I heard a weird noise. When I opened the door flames were coming from under the hood. The initial flames were coming from the battery side but I still have no word as to what the cause was. It ended up catching the cab on fire also. The car was a total loss. Has anyone heard of anything like this about any Hyundai vehicle. What could have been the cause?
Update from May 28, 2011: The car was totalled out by insurance. I still don't have a report from the adjuster as to what the cause was but the preliminary cause from the FD was electrical.
I'm upside down on this car because insurance will only pay market value. Cause sometime in between when I bought it and when it burned up it lost $4000 in value. Everyone I talked to about some sort of lawsuit says I'm stuck with this payment on a car that has been reduced to scrap metal. I'm only a month and a half into this battle but I plan on pusuing this until the end. Please be careful out there. My family was just a few moments away from being in the car.

Just want everyone to know out there who has a Hyundai Sonata mine's was year 2011 it caught on fire out of nowhere not sure what caused it but Hyundai Motors is working with me very well. As of now I'm very pleased with them being concerned. Just be careful, oh yeah by the way it was the engine area that caught fire.
