When I took my 2011 Sonata in for the motor recall, I was told my motor was ok. On July 11, 2017 my 2011 Sonata limited suddenly stopped running while driving about 55 mph and stranded me in the middle of a busy four lane highway. I had 146 thousand on the odometer when this happened. As it was out of warranty, I had it towed to my regular mechanic. A few days later he informed me the motor completely seized. How can this be as Hyundai assured me my motor was ok and I change the oil every five thousand miles with pure synthetic? I think it is one hell of a coincidence that you had a recall on that motor, you found mine to be ok, and then it suffers a complete and absolute failure. I paid my mechanic $4602.05 to replace the motor with a used motor that has 48 thousand miles on it, as I could not afford a new car. This is my last Hyundai or Kia.

The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. While driving various speeds, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was able to restart on the first attempt. The contact was unable to recall when the recall notification was received, and was unaware that there was a recall until the failure occurred. The vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 15V568000 (engine). The vehicle was taken to the dealer (lake norman Hyundai, 02520 chartwell center dr, cornelius, nc, 28031) and the recall repair was completed. The contact was advised that the oil level was low and provided an oil change. The vehicle did not produce the diagnostic codes through the inspection that required replacing the engine; however, the recall remedy failed to repair the vehicle. Four days later, the failure recurred three more times. The vehicle was able to restart on the first attempt after one failure. Two other times, the vehicle restarted after a few attempts. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, but no diagnostic codes were found. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that they could not do anything based on the information that the dealer provided. The vehicle was not registering the failure codes and no additional assistance was offered. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

Txx3 is the campaign but there was also another campaign that was talking about the specifics of what is happening with my vehicle that all relate to this. My car has stalled numerous times including on the highway. I have already had it towed to another shop, and now I need it to go to the dealership. The guy on the phone at the dealership knows the recall and issues, but basically says my car doesn't qualify. It only gets the extension of warranty on the motor. How can a company make a vehicle that could kill someone due to poor assembly and not really be willing to help? they should assume responsibility and fix my car.

Was getting onto the highway when my power steering gave out, was able to pull onto the side of the road away from traffic. My engine started knocking and I was unable to keep my car running. I had it towed to Hyundai in clarksville Maryland, where they stated I had engine failure and that it needed to be replaced. They are now telling me they can't replace it although it is under a recall and under the cut off mileage. They are not communicating with me about the repair of my car and have yet made any attempts to get me into a new car. At this point I don't want my car repaired, I would rather them buy my car back or put me in a new car. The car has 5 recalls that I an aware about including the engine, power steering, front seat belt latches, my brakes pedal, and front coil springs.

Driving at highway speed on capital beltway the engine just stopped. Had to coast to right shoulder with hazard lights on. Near collision. Car started up. Later that afternoon the car started knocking and then the oil light started pulsing and then the car just stopped at highway speeds. Had to limp it to the right shoulder and wait 2.5+ hours to get a tow to the dealership. 101,846 miles. I've had to replace the starter and fix the steering issue at my cost. I maintain my vehicles per factory spec and take them to the dealer for repairs. (I have a Ford Ranger with 240,000 miles on it!). dealer has informed me that the engine needs to be replaced or rebuilt. The 2.4L engine is notorious for this failure pattern.

Takata recall. My Hyundai Sonata completely died on me without any warning. One day while I was driving my 2011 Hyundai Sonata on the highway all the dashboard lights came on. Next thinng I know the car cut off while I was doing 65 mph with my 2 year old daughter in the vehicle. Luckily I was able to get the car stopped. Luckily I was close to home and managed to make it safely. The next day when I cut the vehicle on I started hearing a knocking sound from the vehicle. On my way to work the car cut off two more times and when I tried to cut it on again it would not move. I had the car towed to Hyundai and I was given the complete run around about reparing my vehicle. I informed the manager J that I had a recall on the engine and he said no work is going to be done without Hyundai approval. So now im stuck here with no car trying to figure out ways to go to work everyday and school and Transport my kid to and from school. Im awaiting to see whether Hyundai will honor its recall and fix my car. Im a very unhappy customer and lost all trust I had in my vehicle.

Sonata

  • 116,000 miles
My 2011 Hyundai Sonata started having a terrible knocking noise while accellerating on June 3, 2017, and I had to have it towed to our local Hyundai dealership, bakersfield Hyundai, for my scheduled appointment yesterday. I believe that the issue is most likely related to recall 132/txx3. What has me frustrated is that I took my vehicle in for inspection when first notified of the engine issues. At that time, my car had about 90,000 miles and Hyundai claimed no issues were found. Based upon my car's current condition at 116,000 miles, I believe that the issue was always there, just not identified by Hyundai correctly. This placed all drivers and passengers in my household at considerable risk. In fact, the vehicle has been the primary vehicle of my teenage son! as a new driver, he would most likely not know what to do if the engine completely lost power and could have been seriously injured! I have also had to miss time from work and had to pay $54 for the vehicle to be towed. All of which could have been avoided if Hyundai had been more proactive about replacing the engines. Now the service technicians are telling me that there engines are on backorder for up to 9 weeks! the said that I may qualify for a rental, but I doubt that my teenage son, who drives the car to school, sport activities and work will be able to use a rental since he is under 18. Hyundai has known of the need to replace these engines and should have increased manufacturing replacements as soon as they became aware of the issues. I am also wondering what guarantees will be in place with the new engine block.

While driving on highway 91W, vehicle began to make a very loud rattling noise from engine. All dashboard lighting began to flash, then vehicle shut off. I managed to stop in an emergency section of highway. The vehicle electrical components turned on but not the engine. I shut off the vehicle completely, called towing service, & while speaking to the agent I noticed smoke coming out from the engine and then from inside dashboard. Fire flames then immediately began to come out from the front driver-side engine. I exited the vehicle through the passenger side door, crossed the ramp lane, & watched the entire front end vehicle completely engulfed in flames. The city of riverside fire department put out the fire with the assistance of chp.
