While driving vehicle in traffic, engine seized while in motion there was enough momentum to pull over to safety, however, the car has not been able to start since. Two master mechanics have been unable to diagnose the issue after running diagnostics. There was no check engine light before or after car seized. Electrical power intact; not a battery issue.

We purchased a 2011 Hyundai Sonata in 2011. In June of 2013 my wife was driving when for no apparent reason the sunroof shattered. I called the dealer but was told that the warranty did not apply to that situation and that I should contact my insurance company. We had a $500 deductible comprehensive policy. We paid the $500 and the insurance company picked up the balance. Today, I read an article in the consumer report magazine that related that this is a common problem so I thought I would report this incident. My car use too much oil, every week I have to add a quart in a half of oil, that is becoming extremely pricey for me and getting oil changes is worthless to me because it like I'm wasting money by getting them. It would also help to have a low oil warning light show up because before I noticed this problem with my car I was very low on oil getting off the highway that god I was only blocks away from a auto part store to by some motor oil...this really do suck

While driving, I attempted to put the driver side window down, and the control button has malfunctioned. It is almost as if a spring operates it, and has worn out. The button has no control of itself. I have never experienced this with any other car I have owned. I am afraid of it failing on me, which means I will not be able to operate the window up and/or down.

While driving, I noticed a red light flickering on and off on my dashboard. I noticed that it was the driver side air bag indicator light. It now stays on constantly, whether in motion or not. Not sure what the issue is, as my airbag has never been deployed. I am afraid of it deploying while driving, but was told that it would not from one of the Hyundai dealer service reps. It will cost $112 just for a diagnosis of the problem.

I am having issues with my brakes and car starting. When I press on the brakes and use the push start button, the brakes become hard and I am unable to start my car. I keep my foot on the brake and hit the push button several times. I get off of work or drop my child at daycare and wondering if my car is going to start. I had my car serviced in early May. Two weeks later the brakes lights were staying on after turning the vehicle off. I would have to tap the brakes several times to turn off. On June 12, 2017, I left work and my car wouldn't start. Luckily one of my co-workers stayed with me because the rental car companies were closing. I got a ride home and got a rental the next morning. I had to tow my car and I need a starter and battery. Even after the new starter, the events continue to happen at random. The dealership does not provide loaner vehicles. I can't leave my vehicle for a long time and pay out of pocket for a rental car. This is ridiculous and not safe. It's hot in Texas and I can't be stranded with a 1 year old.

Low beam headlights stopped working without warning while driving vehicle in rural area. Was not noticed initially because was driving on well traveled road (2 lanes, main artery of city) with other vehicles and their lights illuminated the road way. However, when on a less traveled road that is when unable to see highway or surrounding areas. As a result, this forced me to momentarily pull off the highway. The high beam fortunately was working so utilized for remainder of drive home. Posed potential risks - driving for a while with no lights on, turns, when getting back on the road, blinding cars in the opposite direction, making a U-turn to turn into my housing area on a multi-lane highway at 10:00 pm as this was discovered in the evening. It is unclear if this was associated with the sporadic clicking noise heard for some time which appears to originate from the front area of the car. The sound can be heard on the inside of the car and is not audible when standing outside. Reported sporadic noise on several occasions to dealership for repair. Was informed that they didn't know where the sound was coming from but it did not appear to effect the car; maybe a snake (actually told by dealership). No recall, or could not duplicate sound and therefore unable to address ticking.

While driving on highway 91W, vehicle began to make a very loud rattling noise from engine. All dashboard lighting began to flash, then vehicle shut off. I managed to stop in an emergency section of highway. The vehicle electrical components turned on but not the engine. I shut off the vehicle completely, called towing service, & while speaking to the agent I noticed smoke coming out from the engine and then from inside dashboard. Fire flames then immediately began to come out from the front driver-side engine. I exited the vehicle through the passenger side door, crossed the ramp lane, & watched the entire front end vehicle completely engulfed in flames. The city of riverside fire department put out the fire with the assistance of chp.

While I was driving my car, the shift gear switch from drive to 1st gear on it's own. Unable to move the gear anywhere. It was stuck on 1st gear. I couldn't put it in park, drive, neutral or reverse. I turn the the car off, hoping to reset. The car completely stop and I was unable to start the engine nor remove key from out of the ignition. Tried using the gear shift release, it won't work either. I happen to be lucky that it was on a residential area. If it happen 30 min before I was on the freeway, I would be in a massive accident.

Prior to the following dates, no passenger has been in my car to observe this. April 21, 2017; driving from ky to Florida. Atlanta had strong rain. The passenger floor became flooded. Water is pouring in at the most left corner, under the glove box. Also rained in Florida thru Georgia on April 23 - return trip. Same thing but water has now overflowed from the front to the back seat. When I was asked about how long this has been happening, all I could say was I noticed a little condensation on the windshield during winter but I had no idea why so I thought it was just the cold temperature.

My Sonata could have killed or seriously injured me and every passenger that sat in it. In the first 6 months I had to replace a headlight and a tailight already and the A/C would have to be vacuumed and recharged which was about a $250 job. Fixed. In September I noticed my steering column would make an awful racket when driving over nearly anything on the road. I was shocked when I discovered there were six open recalls dating back to at least 2014. These ranged from faulty door handles to metal shavings in the oil that could cause stalling and/or dangerous sudden shutting off of the vehicle. October 5th I took the car to crain Hyundai of bentonville, in bentonville, ar. After 5 hours, they said I was good to go on the recalls and after $300 the coupler was fixed. Fast forward to December 2nd, 2016. Earlier in the day, while driving, I noticed my dashboard lights getting lighter and darker. At about 6pm that evening my boyfriend noticed the car making a "knocking" noise so he pulled over to check the oil and waited an hour and a half before someone could bring him some, giving the car plenty of time to cool and be good to go. He got going down the road only at about 25mph and got about 500 yards when the car made a "whoosh" sound and the engine shut off. He coasted into a driveway and minutes later the car was in flames. After unloading a fire extinguisher, it took the fire department cutting open the trunk to completely drown out the fire. It is now February 26th, 2017, I called Hyundai claims on December 3rd and have been waiting on the results of their investigation since. They have had the findings from the inspector for 6 weeks now and still no answer. I strongly urge everyone I know to do their research before buying anything with a Hyundai motor America emblem.
