My driver side tail light fell out of the casing, driving down the highway during the summer of 2015. Luckily, the wires kept it holding on or it would have flown into traffic. Now, a bit over a year later, in September of 2016, and out of warranty, the passenger side has done the same thing. The dealership refuses to do anything since I am out of warranty. According to Hyundai forums, there are a lot of cars that are having this issue. See this link: www.Hyundai-forums.com/yf-2011-Sonata-I45/143267-tail-light-studs-breaking-off.html#/topics/143267?page=3&_K=wuwg5M also, there is an issue with a $3 clip in the steering wheel. I get a lot of clatter when driving down the road, and turning my steering wheel according to Hyundai forums, my car isn't the only one this is happening to. I have been told it isn't a safety issue, and can wait a bit to get it replaced. It is highway robbery for them to charge $237 to replace a $3 part. But, because it is in the steering column, no other auto-repair places will fix it. I cannot document this as I have not had it fixed yet, and I cannot record the sound while driving...

Takata inflators: Had a car fire from fuel line per fire dept information. I was on the 405 West bound fwy when I started to smell gas and the front hood of the car I noticed black smoke coming out. I got out of the fwy and then parked the car, when someone driving of the opposite direction yelled for me to get out of the car. I turned off the car and ran out to the side walk within a few minutes the car when up in smoke and then it exploded twice. People from the surrounding businesses came out to see if I was alright. The owner of the flower nursery came out and called the fire dept. They arrived and turned out the fire.

I bought my Hyundai Sonata gls 2011, in 2010, and since then there have been several recalls on it. I have done my research, and have found that a manufacturer must repair, replace, or supply a new vehicle to the owner when a recall is mandated. I have taken my vehicle to the dealership for each recall, and what they do is inspect the vehicle, and in most cases, tell me my car doesn't apply to the recall as they find nothing wrong. I am disturbed by this because again, everything I have read, everyone I have talked to, etc... tells me that the dealer must do something in order for the recall to be considered complete. I am driving around in a vehicle with things wrong with it, transporting a toddler, and am stuck with finding resolution on my own. How is this fair to the consumer? the manufacturer has all of its money, as my car is paid off, and my car isn't worth anything for trade or resell due to negligence. If I can make a difference by filing a complaint, and possibly save someone's life, I am willing to try everything and anything in my power to do so.

I made a previous complaint NHTSA # 10896943...I just wanted to confirm when I picked my car up from the shop because my brake lights would not go off which caused my battery to die and multiple other problems, this was actually my 4th recall to be fixed on this car. They confirmed the rattling and lose steering wheel is because the steeling coupler needs replaced. There is no recall and it is going to cost over $300 to get it fixed. While the car was in the shop I found out there was 2 other recalls 6 total recalls since I bought this car. The shop had to order parts for one of the recalls so I am having to take my car back when the part arrives. There needs to be a recall on the coupler as well, if I do not pay to have this fixed and it breaks while driving it could cause me to lose steering which obviously is not a situation I want to put my family or myself in!! this needs to be addressed before someone get seriously hurt or killed due to all these failures!!

Every time I go over a bump in the road even a bump so small most people dont even feel, a rattle comes from the steering column. While in the shop for multiple other recalls I ask them to look at this and he tells me the sterring coupler has been a major issue and probably needs to be replaced but I would need to pay to have it checked. This same issue has occurred on many other 2011 through 2014 Sonatas. It is going to cost over $300 to get it fixed. Given the many issues with this part, it appears to be one of the recalls. I love my car but this is starting to be a bit much seeing how I only have 67,000 miles on the car. Ready to sale it and get something else if Hyundai cant provide a safe and decent care for me and my family!

While driving 45mph I experience my steering wheel shaking and it leaves the vehicle hard to control and it pulls to the right. I then started to experience my car not starting after sitting for not even 5 minutes and this has been occurring for 2 days. I took my car to the local dealership and was advised that I needed to replace the starter lever and steering coupler. Both of these are common defects of this model and has been recalled in the past. I called Hyundai today and was told that I am now responsible for the cost of the repairs regardless of what happened in the past. The repairs are going to cost me a little over $600 when the parts are plastic and wouldn't cost more than $20. A complaint has been filed with the BBB as well...this is a major safety issue on this vehicle and the manufacture needs to do a better job at building these parts.

II had a recall on several things on my car. Took the car back to dealer I bought it from had the recall stiff done and two week later my starter went out. I informed them there was also a recall for the starter and they argue me down that it was not. Well several people I know with the same type of car year, make and model and they received an notice but when they took it in the recall was found. I had to get my car towed and pay for the repairs in the amount of $575 at for they were trying to charge me over $700. I should not have had to pay for a recall and now trying to find how to file a claim for a refund. My car stop on the street in front of my place of employment I got a jump it made it home and died again on the street call aaa and had it towed to dealer.

The 2011 Hyundai Sonata pneumatic hood lifts, both left and right, have failed. These pneumatic lift struts do not hold the vehicle hood up when the hood is released and lifted up. When lifted up the hood immediately falls down hard because there is no support anymore to keep the hood up. This is extremely dangerous because a person's arm or hand or both could be severely injured or possibly severed off. This happens when the vehicle is stationary and the hood is released and opened to replace window washer fluid or to perform any other maintenance item. Both the left and right pneumatic hood struts make a noise indicating that there is no pneumatic support function to make them work safely and properly. Can very dangerous if small children were close to the hood or had their fingers in the way when putting the vehicle hood up.

I agree with all complaints regarding the flimsy weak sounding horn. It sounds like a golf cart. A car next to me can not hear me blowing at them. In addition, the security system is hooked to the weak sounding horn; I can not hear it in the house. I certainly believe this is a safety hazard!!. I contacted Hyundai and they told me that they were sorry, they could not build autos to please everyone.

The drivers side door is loose. Took it to dealership last year and they stated that my car was not included in door latch recall. Airbag light came on out of nowhere. Called N they stated this is not a recall. As of this past summer, the steering wheel clicks every time I turn it. I'm going to call them tomorrow because I read where there were recalls on that, but I never received notification. I drive 45 minutes to work and back Monday through Friday and do not want to take a chance on being in an accident. I don't understand how my car shows the exact same signs of recalls but every time I call or take it there, my VIN number was not included.

The horn doesn't work at all. I even had the "clock spring" changed and it still doesn't work. There is a stem that connects to the horn which is worn down and it has no contact with the horn; that's why is doesn't work. I think that this is very dangerous to drive around without a horn to alert other drivers or pedestrians from wrong doing. I can't be the only customer that is complaining about this issue.
