My wife and I purchased a new Hyundai Sonata SE in early 2012. Shortly after driving it for awhile we noticed wavy, distorted images in the front windshield; it seems to be an imperfection within the glass. This causes a distorted view when driving, and is worse if sunlight is hitting the windshield, or headlights from on-coming cars. We took the car back to our dealer and spoke with a service representative; he stated he had personally experienced a similar problem with his new Hyundai, and stated it went away with time. The problem continued. We brought this problem up again, when we brought the vehicle in for it's routine service in the Fall of 2012. We were sold an in-cabin air filter replacement. The problem continued.
We have repeatedly cleaned the glass, inside and out, but that did not fix the problem. Recently, in the late Fall of 2013 we returned to our dealer with this same complaint, and were told it was just glare from sunlight. We complained to Hyundai America and were given case #6243391; their "Case Manager" stated he would "reach out" to our dealer. That same day he called back and informed us our dealer was "not familiar with our vehicle!"
We have contacted other Hyundai service departments and finally found a service manager who acknowledged that he has seen this issue (though rarely), and he suggested we tell our local service department that we insist on speaking with the "Factory Representative, when he/she makes their routine visit to our dealer." No one else told us that was even an option.
So that's where we are; as of 12/10/13, we are attempting to meet with the factory representative. I will let you know how that goes.
We have researched this issue on-line and we have talked with other Hyundai owners, and determined that this issue is not isolated to just our case. There is a problem with the glass in Hyundai motor vehicles. If anyone else has experienced this problem or knows anything about this issue please let us hear about it!
