Sonata GLS 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 255,000 miles

Setting the cruise control on a car, one would expect not to continuously have to watch the speedometer- at least that is what I thought. Depending on the incline, after setting the cruise control on a Sonata, years ranging from 2011 to 2018, the cruise control will not limit your speed. I believe the drag is the only thing limiting the speed, and that is at 80 - 85 MPH. The issue would be noticeable in the moments when someone would track your speed, for example, law enforcement. Try explaining why you were traveling as much as 20 MPH over the speed limit and speed set on the cruise control.

Hyundai did a great job on the suspension and the Sonatas are quiet and smooth. It is a "numb" car, which makes it nearly impossible to detect the issue.

Now expect the issue in all Hyundai Sonata 2011-2018, Hyundai Santa Fe (same years), Kia Optima (same years), Kia Sorento (again, same years). The difference in between the sedans and the utility vehicles is that the sedans will reach higher speeds with cruise control.
