Vehicle engine stalled at stoplight. Had towed to local mechanics shop for evaluation. After sitting overnight the car was driven approx 10-15 miles and it ran ok. Several weeks later, on about July 22, 2020 the engine shut down at a stop light, 6 lane road. Car pushed to side of road and towed to mechanics shop. Following morning when mechanic cranked the car the engine knocked! the mechanic, who is a certified 'master mechanic' said it was a rod knock. Could only be repaired with new engine. The car has 126,000 miles. The car was put into service brand new as my son'E business car furnished by his company. At 90,000 miles the car was wholesaled to me for my grandson. We have complete maintenance and oil changed records for entire life of car. We contacted the dealer who informed us we would have to deliver the car and pay $130 for them to evaluate and they were very discouraging that Hyundai would honor any kind of warranty. We learned there was a class-action lawsuit involving these engine failures so we intend to pursue that course of action. Very, very disappointed in the quality of Hyundai and their response.

While driving down the highway at 55 mph a warning for the hybrid system appeared on the middle screen between the gauges along with an audible chime instructing to safely pull over and stop the car. After pulling over and turning off the car I was unable to restart the vehicle. Display stated the hybrid battery was low and not to start the engine. After having the car towed to the dealer, the dealer stated the engine was seized. The car had been serviced as recommended since purchase. I am the original owner. There were no warning signs of complete engine failure. I have since learned that Hyundai Sonata had a recall for engine failures, but my model was not included.

Yesterday I was driving and out of nowhere my car shut off and all the lights came on but the crazy part is. The car still was moving and didn't stop until I stopped and pulled over.(so weird) I turned the car off and started it back up. It came on with no problems but no check engine light is on and it's flashing. I never see a flashing check engine light. Back to the story I'm driving but I can only go a certain speed or the car would stall and jerk like it's about to cut off. I did not repeat did not stop until I made it home lol. The whole time driving it kept stalling. In order for me to get home I had to jump on the highway but I took back roads just because I was scared the car would stop on the highway.O and don't let me stop at a red light hunni, it's taking its time to get up some speed. This the second or third time it did that but this time the check engine light came on. Is this under a recall? if not it definitely should be because that was so [xxx] scary driving. That was the longest 23 mins ever lol. Parts of this document have been redacted to protect personally identifiable information pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I and my husband both own Hyundai's. we both have been having major engine issues with both vehicles consuming an incredible and abnormal amount of oil leaving us to have to put in over more than a gallon or more of oil into each vehicle. This has caused us much lost time in being able to enjoy our vehicle. After both vehicles completing oil consumption test, both vehicles recvd engine block replacements. This has not fixed the problem. Both vehicles have reverted back to doing the same thing. The issues stated back up after about a year. We have had to not drive the cars, put the cars in the shop, rent other vehicles to drive while at the same time have to pay the vehicle monthly payments. This is unfortunate because the manufacturer, Hyundai on purposely selling damaged cars and leaving the thousands of owners of these vehicles to have to deal with the unflux of issues that it has and continue to cause. Both vehicles are now back to square one with both needing to go back into the shop for more engine work whatever that may entail. The dealership has informed us that they do not have any vehicles for us to use or borrow while our vehicles are being maintenance. This is another inconvenience because now we have to pay the car note, rent a vehicle and possibly pay for any maintenance and then have to deal with the same manufacturer to try to get reimbursed. This has been nothing short of a nightmare. We want justice and we want the manufacturer Hyundai to be held accountable for their mischeavous and selfish actions. This has been ongoing but the vehicle went into the shop for new engines in late 2018 and my husband after mine. We could not afford to have both vehicles to be in the shop at the same time.

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle stalled without warning. The contact made multiple attempts to restart the vehicle however, the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the vehicle was diagnosed with complete engine failure. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000.

My car has lost power while driving. It has now happened 3 times. Luckily it has happened while on a road and not the highway. There are other times when I'm stopped at a red light or stop sign and I can feel the car losing power and/or sputtering. The car will turn on after trying a few tries and will have the engine and traction control alerts lights on. Sometimes I will have to keep pushing on the gas while stepping on the break to keep the engine revving so the car doesn't die. The are also times when it seems the car loses power momentarily then keeps going. Very scary and dangerous.

The contact owned a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The contact initially discovered a recall for NHTSA campaign number :20V121000(fuel system, gasoline). Jones bel air Hyundai (1504 belair rd, bel air, md 21014) was contacted and confirmed that his vehicle was included in the recall. An appointment was made and a new motor and fuel line was placed into the vehicle. The contact stated that the after the repair, the vehicle would hesitate to start as an unknown warning light would illuminate on the dashboard. On May 18, 2020, upon attempting to start the vehicle, white smoke began to emit from the hood. The fire department was called and the fire was extinguished, the vehicle was destroyed as a result of the fire. No injuries were reported and a fire report was taken. Beginning at around 90K miles, there was intermittent stuttering, about 2 seconds apart, whereby the vehicle would lose power while in motion; at various speeds, both on acceleration and deceleration or coasting. The episodes were only happening after the car had been driven for more than an hour. Now, at 92K miles the stuttering has increased in frequency and today I received a "hybrid system warning! safely stop and do not drive" message with audible warning chimes and a "wrench" icon illuminated. This trip was only a ten mile trip, in the morning, outside temperature was about 65F. The car hadn't been driven at all this day prior to this event. The warnings happened twice, less than one mile to my home, and I barely made it to my driveway, where it's now parked.

I started my car the morning of 7/3/2020 and when I started it I heard a little rattling noise that sounded like it was coming from the front tire. After driving home from work it got worse and I heard the rattling knocking noise every time I accelerated. It eventually got so loud and bad I had to park the car. It continues to turn on but the engine is knocking when I looked under the hood. My car has had a recent oil change so I don't know what could cause this issue. Please help!!!

Feb 2020 check engine light flickered on and off. Oil change was not due at that time. I stopped off at a local oil shop, they topped off the oil. Then made an appt with Hyundai repair shop. Since February I have completed multiple oil consumption trials. When those failed Hyundai recommended a compression/leakage test on all 4 cylinders. According to Hyundai the car did not meet criteria for passing, but didn't fail either. 1 cylinder failed the leakage test. Hyundai recommended fuel system service with foam cleaner at my cost ($300-400). I redid oil consumption trial, my car started consuming more and more oil as I moved farther away from the cleaning service. I technically didn't fail that oil consumption trial, but by the last 1000 miles I was using 1.25 quarts. They recommended another oil consumption trial, which failed. Now Hyundai is recommending that I do a tear down to point of failure of my engine to diagnose why it is failing at my cost - another $300-400. The local Hyundai dealership has stated that Hyundai just needs to replace the engine already. They stated not to worry about the mileage of the car because just a few weeks prior Hyundai replaced the engine of a 2013 Sonata at 230,000 miles. Hyundai corporate does not seem concerned about my issues and is quite cavalier about it. Hyundai corporate even closed my case # without checking to see if the issue had been resolved. Not once during the last 5 months has Hyundai warned me about the known issues with this engine that they can lead to catastrophic engine failures and fires. I have 2 young children, would there be enough time to unbuckle them and remove them for the car should my engine catch on fire? Hyundai has a product that is known to fail, they need to do what is right and that is to replace the faulty engines in these cars.

While driving, engine stalled. Was able to pull to side of the highway. Tried to restart the car, and engine was knocking. Had car towed to dealership. Dealer is balise in fairfield ct. Service department said the engine had a recall. #162. They sent their findings to Hyundai main office. The following week, they said that the same tests had to be resent. Then the manager of service department said that there wasn't a recall. After I was told there was. I called the Hyundai directly. I recorded all my conversations with them. I was told there is a recall for engine. That it can stall while driving. Exactly what happened to me. I set a case number with Hyundai. I was told they would get back with me. They have not for over a week. Haven't heard back from the dealer in week and a half. I've been told they would return my call. But have not received a call. It's been 3 weeks since they have had my car with no response. I asked for a loaner car. I was told that I would only get a loaner car if Hyundai paid for the work. Even then, they prob won't have a loaner car. Hyundai sent me a text message stating that the engine was under recall, #162
