Car was serviced at dealership on 10/02/2020. They flushed the radiator. Of course they fully inspected the car. They said that the rear brake light on drivers side was out, and they replaced it.

Recently a friend told me that my rear brake light on drivers side was out (5 months later). I inspected it & noticed the bulb was bad & the slot where it is inserted was melted. Took it back to the dealership on 2/26/2021. They said that this happens a lot, but there is no recall. I say that it is a "fire hazard" & they say "sorry about your luck, we will fix it for a fee". They did not even offer me a new bulb!

Both brake lights keep burning out at an alarming rate. I have to change them every month. On top of that, the plastic bulb holder burned/melted out at about 60,000 miles, I have to change the whole thing. The rear lights that are on while the car is on also burn at a faster rate than any other car I had before. If both the stop and running lights burn at the same time then I am in a very dangerous situation because there is no way a car behind me can see my car until it may be too late if driving in a highway or road without street lights. I had a Volkswagen, a Honda, a Kia, a Toyota and a Nissan before this car and the Hyundai is the car with far, far more recalls than any other. This dangerous and annoying problem with the lights is not even in their radar because this car has so many problems. I want to get rid of it ASAP.

It appears I am not the only person experiencing an issue with my 2013 Sonata tail lights and head light lamps blowing. I have already replaced both tail lights and one head light in the past two months and now one of the replacement tail lights has blown again. This time it was very black which makes me think it was some type of power surge. This is ridiculous! I get the car paid for and believe I can drive it many more miles before having to purchase another car and make payments again only to find out this could be an ongoing expensive problem.

I really liked this car even with all the recalls but it is getting harder and harder to recommend Hyundai to my friends and family.

THIS IS THE 5TH TIME THAT OUR LEFT BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE GONE OUT IN A 5 MONTH PERIOD, and our taillight ENTIRE MOUNT MELTED! THIS IS THE 2ND ONE WE HAVE HAD TO REPLACE AS THE RIGHT TAILLIGHT HAD TO BE RELACED AS WELL. BOTH LIGHTS MELTED THE ENTIRE UNIT AND IT HAD TO BE REPLACED. The 2012 had this issue and I am convinced that this is causing the fires that a consumer group is asking for a recall for. I am done with all the recalls on this car, and I am an avid Hyundai owner. I am now rethinking as we have had to out so much money in repairs on this vehicle, and our car was part of the engine recall as well. Our small block was replaced, but they are insisting that the taillights melting are an electrical issue since 80k miles and yet its not their problem. Over it!

I went to Hyundai to get my several recalls fixed a few months ago. I told them about my issue with my brake lights constantly burning out. They said they would try and figure out what the problem was. Apparently it was a wiring issue, and they fixed it...for the time being anyways. Here I am, 2 months later, my light burned out again. I was pulled over for speeding, and they tacked on another ticket for my brake light being out. I replaced it immediately and guess what? 3 days later, my brake light is burnt out AGAIN! I am at a loss. I don't know what to do anymore. Someone help, because I am about to junk this car!

I would never recommend this car to anyone. I have 2 different lighting issues that I want to rant about.

First, I have an issue that after locking my car that my lights do not always turn off and sometimes I forget to make sure they turn off. And I have to turn the car on and off before they will turn off it is starting to happening more often. The next issue is the damn brake lights. They burn out so often and this time the bulb is actually melted into the socket and I can not get the metal piece out of the melted socket.

I called many auto parts store to try to get a replacement light bulb socket only to be told over and over that they don't carry it and I would need to go to the dealership. Seems like Hyundai is making great money by creating a defective product that can only be purchased through them. The melting of the socket casing seems like that could be a fire hazard.

I will never purchase another Hyundai and I will try and talk anyone out of buying one if I can. I mean with Engines catching fire to brake lights melting in the socket and them making it hard for its consumers to get a replacement part makes me really upset. I ordered from a Hyundai parts dealer because that's the only place I could find it to purchase

Update from Dec 30, 2018: Now the driver side headlight had to be replaced. And I am still waiting on the part to fix the taillight so will update once I have to total cost for the repair

I have changed my brake lights (both) at least 9 times in the past 5 years. Lights keeps blowing. Some times one blows and the very next day the other goes. I have a stock of light bulbs in my car just to be ready. I have been stopped 3 times by cops due to this problem. This is beyond annoying. I mentioned this problem to the dealer and nothing was done. I was there about 5 months ago for the recall and I made sure I mentioned this issue and I was informed that someone will check it but about two weeks after, lights went out again.

Both of my brake lights went out. I went to change the bulb and noticed the passenger side bulb had over heated that the bulb melted the plastic surrounding the bulb and was stuck so it was extremely difficult removing it. The bulb is in but it will not stay attached well as it should because part of it is melted. Electrical tape is holding it in place. The driver side there is a wiring problem because the bulb goes out and I have to turn it and it comes on but it will not stay attached in the plastic part that holds the bulb in place either. I am extremely upset about all the problems with this car. Not only that. The light inside on the roof of the car comes on when it wants to. I have to have it turned in the off position so it will not come on automatically. I took it to Hyundai a few months ago and mentioned it but was told it wasn't covered under warranty and if they had to take a look at it I would be charged on top of the cost to fix it. Why should I have to pay to have this fixed when the bulb that came with the car caused the casing around the bulb to melt and a wiring problem. Also my head light bulbs blows way to quickly. In less than a year. I am tired of this car. I also put a complaint about my engine problem a day or two ago. I don't have the money to fix these ongoing problems with this junk!! Today is October 26, 2017.

Been having problems w/ my brake lights burning out for the past year on both sides. Lights burned out so bad w/o warning that it melted the casing or harness that holds the bulb, it was hard to get the bulb out. Took it to a mechanic to get repaired was told that I had to replace the entire brake light assembly and that the sockets are burned out and will need to be replaced soon. The Mechanic stated he never seen anything like it before.

None the less, I could not afford to replace so he Jerry rigged it and taped down the bulb to hold in place w/ electrical tape. That only helped temporarily b/c the bulb continued to burn out. This is ridiculous, I have never had problems like this w/ any other car that I have ever had. This car is suppose to be rated as one of the top safest cars to drive. But there is nothing but trouble and recalls w/ this car as well as recalls they need to be recalling like these brake lights.

This is not normal for a car to do especially when there are other cars doing the exact same thing. Hyundai don't even inform you in a decent amt of time that there is a problem until it is too late at times. Seriously disappointed in my decision in buying the car w/ full regret.

Ongoing issue. Brake light blows and we replace, blows again. Then, battery started dying. Dealer stated wiring harness was melted on both sides but we see no evidence. Sockets appear to be melted and bulbs cannot be removed from sockets. Searching for the replacement harness to replace as dealer states you must purchased the full light kit at $325 each? They also insist that the wiring harness cannot be purchased separately. Wish we had another dealer close by as ours obviously does not have Internet.

This is a serious fire danger and Hyundai has recalled other years for the EXACT problem. Hope they step up before someone dies from a car fire!

I have a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. Last year my passenger tail light blew, so I replaced both of them in fear the other would eventually also. First the bulbs were melted into the bulb socket. We were finally able to get the bulbs out and replace them. After a few days the same bulb on the passenger side went out again. I replaced the bulb again and it isn't working still. I now found out yesterday that my driver side bulb is completely gone also. I am going to replace the bulb sockets and light bulbs again because I am afraid of them catching on fire. I see where others with the same make and model have similar issues and I believe this should be a responsibility of the dealership and not the consumer.
