Sonata Limited 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 60,000 miles

This was the second time the panel broke. I still haven't gone back to Hyundai about it because the panel still works just fine and I never think about it when I have spare time. I'm sure it will cost me whenever I sell or trade-in the car, though.

The first time this panel broke for me, my car was still under warranty. Hyundai happily repaired the problem without issue. It's not a huge problem, the panel still works and everything, it just pops up. It appears to just be poor design - it sits too high on the seat, so when I get out of the car, the seat pushes against the panel, and eventually breaks the clips holding it onto the seat. No connectors are damaged, so I can still control the seat normally, the panel just sits loose.

In August 2016 the drivers seat control panel separated from the consol. this exposed the electrical wires and interfered with getting in and out of the vehicle. Never before have I ever had this type of problem with any vehicle I owned.

For the second time in two years the Drivers Seat Control Panel Bracket has broken off exposing the electrical wires. Had it fixed in Aug 2016 for the same problem. It's not even 1 year and it has broken again.

Back to the dealer and was told they will take a look at it. Will advise.

I've seen other complaints of the same problem, same car. Hyundai needs to beef up this part. In my case, it has broken 3 times in 2 years. The most recent time it happened when a valet park guy was exiting the car in front of me. All of this is normal use. I admit that I'm a little heavy, but I've never had this problem with any other car I've owned. The fact that others have had the same problem shows that it's a bad design. Still, knowing the part is weak i try very hard not to put any pressure on it when I get in and out of the car. Then a valet guy exits the car and it breaks again. The first two times it broke, the dealer fixed it under the warranty. I'm seeing reports of Hyundai refusing to fix it for other customers on the 3rd time it breaks. We'll see if they do it for me the 3rd time.

Getting out of my car, I heard a snap. Def. didn't sound good. looked down at my seat, and, sure enough, the plastic panel snapped in the front of the seat. Now it is just dangling. Really disappointed in this. Never had anything like this happen in a car before.

broken seat panel

This has broken multiple times and the dealer is refusing to replace it now saying it's a goodwill item and not covered by warranty. It's engineered poorly and should be replaced. I've never had this issue on any other car I've owned.

The panel on the left side of the driver seat broke and won't stay attached to the seat. I have yet to take it to the dealership, but once I do I will update this thread.

Update from Aug 22, 2016: Hyundai replaced the panel but offered it only as a one time fix.
