Sonata Limited 2.0t

  • Automatic transmission
  • 945 miles

New delivery 3/24/2016 with 175 miles. Took the car in 4/6/2016 with 945 miles for oil change and fuel gauge concern. Full tank on delivery. At half tank I decided to fill up. Only took 6 gallons to read full. 18.5 gallon tank. Was told no problem found. I have a nine video diary spanning several weeks and tanks from early May to late June 2016. Inconsistent. Readings vary from: Reads FULL after fill up and within 20 miles of driving, drops to 3/4. Fuel up. Gas pump stops. Gauge reads 7/8th full. Drive to another gas station. Add another 1 gallon before pump stops and gauge DROPS from 7/8th to 3/4. Currently in dealership service department on DAY 7 STILL with no problem found. I contacted Hyundai Customer Service yesterday and was told it would be 3 to 5 days before either myself or the dealership will be contacted. This is our third Hyundai/Kia product since 2008. Our 2012 Kia Forte SX 5 door is nearly 4 years old with 80,000 miles. How does that gauge act ? From day one to today, you can take the gauge to E and Miles To Empty reading zero or flashing dotted lines and that 13.6 gallon tank will take 12.3 gallons. I don't think it's too much to ask that the fuel gauge in my NEW $35,000 car be at least as accurate as our four year old $20,000 car (when new) from the same company. Received a call as I'm typing this. They still cannot verify an issue with the gauge - which I find puzzling because complaints I found about it date back to late 2014 so why this is being treated like a mystery is beyond me.

Update from Jul 28, 2016: After several days at the dealership, re-positioning the fuel level sender(s) in the fuel tank seems to have resolved the issue.

Sonata 2.0 Turbo 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 186 miles

Bought this Sonata 2.0 Turbo Sports on August 13, 2015. The already already had 200 kms on it as the dealer said its been drove from other Dealership. When i Received the car from Dealership the Fuel Gauge shows full thank of Gas, even though it started dropping quickly after around 20km. When I reached to Half tank, i filled the gas until the gas pump shuts off. and then I got into car to drive away, it was showing that I have one bar less of gas. I thought maybe I didn't filled it all the way up. But it repeated for another next two times too before I hit the dealership.

They kept the car with them, shuffled around Cluster with other Sonata sitting with them, and put my cluster back into my car and said the problem was that Cluster was loosely fitted and they fitted it properly now, should fix the problem. well, that was not the case, as the problem appeared again, moreover, while swapping the cluster they cracked the cluster screen from the corner, scratched the dashboard and the buttons on radio. I got pretty upset about it as its brand new car, not even a week old. So I called them and they said they gonna order a new cluster and going to fix the scratches too.

went back to them they kept the car with them for another day or so, as they had to fix the back seat leather stitching that was coming off. Got the car back with new cluster, but the scratches were still there, for which they said they gonna book another appointment fort that, but new cluster should fix the problem of fuel gauge.

Right after picking up my car from dealership, went to the gas station to fill up the tank and see it the problem has been resolved. But, guess what ? the problem was still not resolved. The gauge was still showing me one bar less of a gas in my tank. So, I went back to dealership, to let them know that the problem is still there. They said they going to contact Hyundai regarding this issue and will get back to me. Its been a week, still waiting.

fuel gauge faulty

We were on a road trip from Winnipeg to Edmonton and stopped to refuel. The gas station was on level ground and we don't fill the gas tank at the fastest speed to avoid any turbulence in the gas tank. We don't overfill and follow the owners manuals direction to stop filling when the pump stops. We drove away from the gas station only 2.3km (1.4mi) and the fuel meter said that we had used one tick from the tank. This happened more than 1 time on our road trip.

The dealer could not replicate the problem and wouldn't look at our photos to help diagnose the problem. We will have to wait and see if it starts happening again.

Sonata Sport 2.4L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 14 miles

From day one, the fuel gauge would not register, "full" after I had topped off the gas tank.

One day I very slowly filled it up (it took forever) and finally only once got a FULL tank to register on the gas gauge. I told this to the Service Adviser.

The tech checked the electrical readings and blew out the vent lines with the same results (he said that there may have been spider nests plugging the vent lines).

The problem is still not resolved partly because of the bigger problem of the camshaft sensor error that had been

plaguing the engine that had to be fixed to get the car to drive safely.

Sonata Limited

  • Automatic transmission
  • 900 miles

Bought my 2015 Sonata Limited in Dec 2014.

The fuel gauge display does not display full tank of gas even though the gas pump stops filling.

Happening from Day1..Went to Dealer..they ripped the gas tank side of the car..researched for a day and delivered gas flavoured smelling car with no fix, said ordered spares and need more time.

Once the parts were in, dropped my car for them to fix and its been a week and did not receive my car yet.

All they say is we are looking into the issue, need more time and blame on the spare parts they receive..

Seriously, brand new car less than 3 months and 1k miles...problems already...
