The BRAKE HOLD light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and diagnosed with electric parking brake motor failure. The contact was informed that the electric parking brake motor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained with the mechanic. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was out of warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.

The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. While making a left turn, the rpms would increase and then idle. When shifting into drive, the motor would jerk violently. Finally, when driving and depressing the brake pedal to come to a stop, the brake pedal seized. The contact had to apply excessive force to bring the vehicle to a complete stop. The vehicle was taken to the crain Hyundai dealer (located in North little rock, ar) where it was diagnosed that metal shavings were found in the motor and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired due to the repair fees. The VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 17V359000 (parking brake). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle warranty had expired. No further assistance was offered. The approximate failure mileage was 84,000.
