Sonata BB 2.4L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 108,000 miles

The vehicles has a range of dangerous issues: vehicle speed problems such as; sudden uncommanded acceleration, runaway throttle conditions, surging, and stalling, all due to various defects. Took it in for estimate and they said they thought it was something with a sensor. It would cost $1400 to repair and they were 90% sure this would fix the issue. I can't afford it and it is not under warranty. This should most defiantly be a recall as it is a huge safety issue!

Sonata ECO 1.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 5,000 miles

i believe many people have voiced their complaints on the poor performance of the Dual clutch transmission of the Sonata Eco 1.6 model. Here goes from my end -

1. Delayed acceleration response. (Often more pronounced when accelerating during a turn or accelerating immediately after braking.) 2. Stuttering when on slow speed. 3. One instance of engine going limp and not accelerating or picking up speed. This resolved on its own after 30 mins. 4. Does not down shift when needing to accelerate. 5. rolls backwards when on a uphill as well as delayed acceleration response. 6. Minimal respite from above acceleration issue in Eco, normal or sport mode.

Sonata ECO 1.6L Turbo

  • Automatic transmission
  • 1,000 miles

very poorly tuned transmission

I've driven all the trims of the Sonata and they ALL have horrible transmissions. The 7-speed DCT in my Eco is better, but not a whole lot. It hesitates to downshift at certain times (does fine at WOT, but it's the partial throttle acceleration which is the problem) and does not upshift when it should. Very frustrating, as I can feel and know the transmission performs well, but the problem clearly lies in the programming. If this was fixed, you could have better fuel economy as well as better driveability. The Eco, Normal, and Sport modes do rather little to remedy this problem. The manual shifter does not listen to inputs either....

Another annoying thing is that the car will roll back on hills significantly (only a problem with the Eco/DCT).

Among other things, the DCT is jerky at low speeds below 15mph, but that's expected as it is a Dual Clutch Transmission and they are all a bit clunky.
