Sonata ECO 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 72,000 miles

Around 45k miles my check engine light came on and when I took the car in for service, I told the dealer I thought there maybe a transmission problem as it stuttered when taking off. I would hear a metallic click and some times feel the "click" in the pedal as I was driving when I was accelerating and the car was shifting into a higher gear. I was told it was "normal" for my car and IF it got worse to bring it back.

Now at 72K I had to take the car to dealer as the car was making loud clunks when shifting into lower gears. Started as a click and eventually would jolt the whole car. Was hard to take off from a stop. Was especially bad when slowing to turn or taking off uphill. Took to dealer, they said that the transmission had a service bulletin for that a software update was needed. They took care of the software issue and sent me on my way reassuring me the car was corrected and problem solved.

Drove the car home and was fine. By that evening, the noise returned and was even worse. Took it right back to the dealer and they come out 3 hours later to tell me the transmission has to be replaced. They had my car for almost a month. Luckily the repair was covered under my power train warranty and they provided me with a rental but now a month later I am hearing the click again. Back to the dealer I go....
