Sonata 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 13,475 miles

After researching this issue, apparently sticky injectors were a intermittent problem for a while until one or more injectors stuck permanently open.

The symptom first noticeable was that the transmission didn't shift correctly intermittently. When the injector(s) stuck open the car had to be shut off as tons of unburned fuel was coming out of the exhaust pipes in the form of a white cloud of unburned fuel.

After the injectors were replaced, the shifting incorrectly has not reoccurred.

I also found that this was not limited to Hyundai products.. Dodge, Honda and Ford vehicles have had this same injector stuck open failure.

The Hyundai problem apparently came from a bad batch of injectors received from the supplier that happened to go to the Sonata manufacturing line. (as far as I can determine).

Bought brand new Sonata 2023. At 800 miles it stalled. Fuel injector stuck open. 4k miles the same thing but different fuel injector. At 5k miles coil pack caused misfire and had to be replaced.
