Sonata Hybrid

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

I have a 2012 Sonata Hybrid, and I started having trouble with the check hybrid charging system in 2019. At the end of 2021 the car quit on me and would not start following the check system warning, so I had it towed to our local Hyundai dealership. Needless to say, I needed a NEW MOTOR. Fine, that was on Hyundai, but then after they replaced the motor, ironically, I needed a new, excuse me, REBUILT TRANSMISSION. Okay, got that put in, now it needed a new battery. I bought the battery from Hyundai. Not 2 days later dashboard lights come on, and so I call the dealership, and like always they say bring it in and let me hook the machine up to it. Before I did that, I took it to AutoZone and used their machine to get the code myself. It was the knock sensor. Remember, I just have a new motor put in that is supposed to come with all new parts, right? Wrong answer!!

I took the car back to the dealership, they hooked it up, turned all lights off, and stated if the lights come back on then there is a problem. I did not even get into my driveway, and the lights went back on. Long story short, they had to replace the knock sensor. A couple of weeks went by and that same problem that started in 2019 happened AGAIN. I have called the dealership and let them know, and as always, can I bring it in so they can hook up to the code reader or whatever it is. The code reader does not read anything! I have asked 3 different employees there to drive it to feel for themselves how it is driving, and they have some excuse every time. I have emailed the corporate office, and no help or response from them, I am on Hyundai forums, I emailed the NHTSA, and I am still having same problem while paying a lot of money for no resolution. NEVER BUY A HYUNDAI!!!!!

Update from Aug 29, 2022: I must add Hyundai of Longview, Texas scored a D- with the BBB and not accredited.

Sonata Hybrid

  • Automatic transmission
  • 980 miles

My new Hybrid, with 980 miles on it, lost engine power and said, "Check charging system." The dealer said they had "never heard of the problem and that nothing was wrong." I refused to take the car back until they have called in a district manager. This is extremely dangerous that the car dies in the middle of the street, and they were just going to hand it back without acknowledging a problem. I am very worried about driving it until they can find the real source of the problem. I drive nearly 50 miles to work each way on the highway.
