Sonata Plug-in Hybrid Limited

Hyundai Corporate said that there is a lifetime battery warranty with the Hyundai Sonata Plug-in Hybrid. I started having issues back in March about the hybrid system failing. The dealership (not their fault) said it is the battery and said they would order the part from Corporate. Fast forward 5 months later, STILL no car fix and no battery shipped. Very frustrating. The icing on the cake (this is the dealers fault) they discontinued their loaner car program. So now I am using a rental from Hertz. This is paid for by Hyundai, but I am very frustrated. I just want my Sonata back. But after reading about a class action lawsuit going on, I am suspecting it will be a couple years from now. Going to get REAL expensive with Hyundai because of paid rental.

Sonata Plug-in Hybrid 4 Door Sedan 3.2L

Approximately late April early May 2022 I started having charging issues with my 2017 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Plug in with only about 51000 miles on the car. I took to the dealership multiple times for diagnosis on the problem. It took about 3 visits to figure out the Hybrid system was unfixable by the dealership, they would have to order a new replacement Hybrid battery system.

I did get a rental car supplied by the dealership for the first 2 diagnostic test. After finding out I would have to replace this system they started paying for a rental Nissan Versa which is not a comparable car at all, I had to start paying for my gas with a car only getting about 30 miles to the gallon. I was using my electricity from my car the majority of the time driving. I actually got over 1900 miles on 1 tank full but my average mileage was always over 1200 miles per tank full. The gas prices were at the highest price and increasing weekly so I was paying around $50.00- $60.00 a tank full with about 320 miles per fill up.

I got at estimated time of 4 months to fix, then another 3 months more to fix, by this time the dealership was able to replace this rental car with a 2022 Sonata gas vehicle. Now I am spending about $55-$65 dollars to fill up on approximately 400 miles a tank full. It’s now December 2022 still with no resolution of my car being fixed or returned. I got another estimated date of January 2023, then another delay until March 2023, now Hyundai is stating it will be at least until May before my car can be fixed. So I am over $1000.00 in gas charges, I wouldn’t of had and still almost a YEAR later I still don’t have my vehicle. This is unacceptable in my opinion, I have asked Hyundai to reimburse but they refuse to do that or replace my car with another Hybrid or Plug in vehicle.

So I keep adding to my loss of money. I know I am not confident in any of Hyundai’s electric or Hybrid cars. I have had a Hyundai Sonata or Elantra for over 10 years now, but this experience has opened my eyes to possible future problems with any of these electric or Hybrid vehicles. I would strongly recommend everyone consider this experience happening to them before purchasing one of the vehicles. I have lost most of my confidence in the vehicles of the future. Any lawyers willing to take a law suit against Hyundai in my behalf? This is not Customer Service or Support. Thanks for listening.
