I brought my car to the mechanic for an oil change and he stated that the oil pan gasket is rotting/corroding and is close to leaking. He said this shouldn't happen in a 5 year old vehicle and that it is defective. There should be a recall on it.

Aug 2010 -- driving on interstate in extremely heavy traffic and engine stalled, losing power steering, brakes, and gas acceleration. Limped to exit, barely avoiding being rear-ended by 18-wheeler and barely got off freeway before engine died. Had to wait apprx 1 hour before engine would start again. Drove very slow and cautiously next 400 miles home with no further problem. July 2011 -- driving in city, turned corner and engine stalled exactly as in 2010 incident described above. Was able to pull into a parking lot before being rear-ended by another vehicle. Only had to wait apprx 15 minutes for engine to start again this time. Made it rest of way home without further incident. For past 3 years, esp light comes on randomly while driving down highway and won't go out. Sometimes pulling over, killing engine, then restarting makes the light go out, and sometimes it doesn't.

My 2005 Hyundai Tucson (2.7L V-6 4WD) has for the last 1.5 years has been: 1.stalling out 2. running very rough with no power (especially when raining or after several days of rain) 3. cranks over but doesn't start 4. engine quits running on highway (leaving us stranded on route I-80). All intermittently! I have had the car in a repair shop where they replaced the ignition coil pack assembly (6/2011). Then it failed again but not long enough to get something diagnosed, so I drove it just knowing someday it was going to happen again. Finally it failed again (1/1/2012) this time long enough for me to get the code/S from the ECM. It had a hard crankshaft position sensor failure. Then it ran fine. I replaced the crankshaft position sensor and upon removal and inspection the sensors three wires were bare. The outer insulation covering all three wires was not only gone but the individual wire insulation was also missing (about 3" of bare copper wire). A quick look of some websites turned up photos of four other crankshaft position sensors that looked the same (missing insulation/ wires shorting) all coming from Hyundai Tucson's. in my opinion this is a very very dangerous situation. Looking at other ntsb complaints for 05, 06 Tucson's turns up nearly 60 other stalling engine; running rough; engine cuts off; type complaints.

Unexpected acceleration of engine when at complete stop (at stop sign) and foot had been on brake for at least 30 seconds. Shift was in drive, engine went full speed, all wheels spun on ground, creating much smoke. Foot remained on brake. Note that accelerator pedal when not engaged is below level of brake pedal when it is engaged and that when accelerator pedal is full down then its level is 3 inches below the brake pedal level when it is engaged. Right foot was on brake - thus no way for operator error since if foot had been off brake the vehicle would have shot forward into intersection and there would have been a multiple car accident. And there is no way to have right foot on brake and to have accelerator full down at the same time. Shifted to neutral, engine continued to race, some noise when shifted - may have harmed transmission. Turned off ignition switch and engine stopped. Vehicle started normally after this. Ac was on. Car had full dealer service at 45,661 miles and state inspection a week before this incident. At 45755 miles, tech confirmed ses light; found code P0150 oxygen sensor- not replaced, software updated for engine control module. Updated 06/24/11

Beginning at approximately 20K miles the engine stalls for no apparent reason. Usually occurs for a few days after extended highway driving then it is less prevalent. Stalling occurs most often when slowing to a stop but has happened on the freeway at speed. Vehicle now has 85K miles on it and problem is still occurring. Has been to dealer several times but no "codes" are set and they cannot duplicate problem (something about manufacturer will not "allow" them to perform extended driving to duplicate failure conditions). On a few occasions the engine has stalled in traffic situations where accidents were narrowly avoided. We no longer feel safe in this vehicle as it is just a matter of time until a serious accident will occur due to this stalling.

Incorrect oil dipstick installed on 2005 Hyundai Tucson gl, 2wd,2.0L, auto. Owners manual calls for 4.23 quarts, this will result in an overfill of about 1/2 inch over the full mark. Owners manual clearly highlights in bold letters not to overfill as engine damage will result. An oil fill to the full line results in less than specified oil quantity. Dealer is aware of problem and has called tech line and has gotten guidance to continue to put 4.23 quarts in and let the dipstick read over full. No fix is offered. Hyunder Consumer Affairs has been notified, case#3249498 and has provided no resolution. A scenario is that a dipstick reading of low would actually be 1/2 quart below the low reading possibly causing engine damage or fire. A correct dipstick needs to be designed to indicate proper oil level. Problem since new.

The contact owns a 2005 Hyundai Tucson. While driving approximately 25 mph and applying pressure to the brakes, the vehicle stalled without warning and then restarted itself immediately. Three months later, the vehicle stalled again. The dealer stated that they would not inspect the vehicle unless the engine light illuminated on the instrument panel. The failure occurred intermittently. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure, but stated that the air intake hose was possibly causing the failure. They replaced the band clamps. Soon after the repair, the failure recurred. The contact filed a formal complaint with the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 7,500 and current mileage was 45,000. Updated 06/09/08

: the consumer stated the vehicle does not reach a high enough temperature reading to operate in cold weather. The vehicle has been taken to the dealership four times for this problem. The first time the vehicle was determined to have an air pocket in the heating system. The consumer continued having the same type of problem. The vehicle was taken back to the dealership a second time. The dealership acknowledged there was a problem with the thermostat and it was replaced. The problems with the engine temperature persisted therefore, the vehicle was taken back to the dealership a third time. The dealership replaced the temperature sensor which did not correct the problem. The vehicle was taken back a fourth time and no problems were found.

The vehicle shut down while driving. Dealer replaced the esp module twice. The brakes were affected by this module, which caused the anti-lock brakes to come on, making the vehicle spin out of control. The factory representative came out three times and the part was defective that they provided.
