I was out of my town picking up a toddler I was going to babysit that night, I also had my own 1.5 year old in the vehicle, on my way back home the vehicles check engine light came on, and the car would not accelerate. We were in heavy traffic going roughly 50 mph at the time this occurred. I pulled into the nearest gas station turned the vehicle off then started it back up again and the check engine light was off. I pulled out of the gas station and no more than 5 minutes later as I was making a lane change again around 50 mph the same thing happened and the vehicle quickly decelerated and the car behind me almost hit us! I had to babies in the car under 2 years old! I limped my way to the nearest autozone and the computer read out a misfire in cylinder 5. I lived approximately 15 miles away and had to drive home on the interstate going maybe 40 mph with my caution lights on while heavy traffic flew by at 70 mph! I have had my spouse look at it and we have tried several things and the check engine light will come on intermittently reading the misfire in cylinder 5 every time. We are going to try replacing the spark plugs wires and coil pack, but after a ton of research I have little to no faith this will work. I have only owned the car for 4 days and it has 118900 miles on it. I am now nervous to take this vehicle anywhere outside of town let alone on the interstate that run directly through my town!

Misfire cylinder #5. this has been an ongoing problem shortly after my mother gave me the vehicle at apx. 24,000 miles. The car was transported from the East coast here to Arizona. It has been in and out of Hyundai dealerships and still no fix, with my father paying the bills, which is hard for him being on a fixed income, but my safety as well as his grand children are paramount. The vehicle will quickly slow down from a 70 mph speed to 35mph without warning and sometimes the engine light will come on (code P0305). I made a complaint once before (case #389816). This continuing problem with no fix has me have several near misses of a rear end collision, which so far I have been lucky not to have. The most recent repair was on June 14th thru 15th, 2013 and the problem was back on the Monday after picking the vehicle on Sunday, the 16th. When the problem first happened the vehicle was still under the extended service agreement and of course it's now expired will the same problem that wasn't researched during that time. I have seen many comments with owners having the same issues on Hyundai's forums, so it's not my imagination. Can someone please investigate these claims so that the problem can be solved? if I could afford a new vehicle it would solve my problem and pass it to someone else, but I don't have the money to do that. Please help, thank you.

Unexpected acceleration of engine when at complete stop (at stop sign) and foot had been on brake for at least 30 seconds. Shift was in drive, engine went full speed, all wheels spun on ground, creating much smoke. Foot remained on brake. Note that accelerator pedal when not engaged is below level of brake pedal when it is engaged and that when accelerator pedal is full down then its level is 3 inches below the brake pedal level when it is engaged. Right foot was on brake - thus no way for operator error since if foot had been off brake the vehicle would have shot forward into intersection and there would have been a multiple car accident. And there is no way to have right foot on brake and to have accelerator full down at the same time. Shifted to neutral, engine continued to race, some noise when shifted - may have harmed transmission. Turned off ignition switch and engine stopped. Vehicle started normally after this. Ac was on. Car had full dealer service at 45,661 miles and state inspection a week before this incident. At 45755 miles, tech confirmed ses light; found code P0150 oxygen sensor- not replaced, software updated for engine control module. Updated 06/24/11

1/6/09 while driving the tuscon began to feel hesitant with slow acceleration and stalled while I was turning across traffic and malfunction light came on. Tow was required to the dealer where the tps sensor assembly was replaced. Mileage was 50209. I purchased my tuscon new in 9/2005 and since 12/05 I had the car in the dealer for malfunction light six times. On 4/26/2009 while traveling on the NJ turnpike the tuscan began to operate in the same manner as in 1/09, and thankfully, I was able to pull over to the shoulder before the tuscon stalled and caused a major accident. I was towed to a hotel, and the next day towed again to a NJ dealer where the sensor assy-air flow and sensor assy oxygen LH were replaced. Mileage 53401. I drove 150 miles to home, and the malfunction light came on again. I took the car to my regular dealer said the code was found for cylinder # 5 misfire, E ngire not misfiring at this time. I contacted the Hyundai consumer assistance center and reported all of the above to them (three calls were made) I was told I would hear back from them last night, but have not. I travel on high speed/traffic roadways often and now I am concerned for the safety of my passengers, drivers/passengers in other cars and my own. I am I to know if the car is going to stall again, and if I am aware of a change in it's operation how I can feel safe not knowing if I will be able to pull to the shoulder before this happens.
