The first problem we had was it acted like it was kicking out of gear, the tachometer revs way up then goes back to normal. Now we are having problems with it not wanting to go into park! The skid sign and the downhill incline signassignasl stay lite! Only way to get them to go away is to keep trying to shift into park and then turn car off!! So stinking tired of Hyundai not finding any problems!

I am having the same issue as other people, but it only happens intermittently, which makes it difficult to take to the dealer to diagnose. My incline and traction lights will come on, after that I am unable to shift into park when I stop. The only way to fix it immediately is if I put the car in neutral and then turn the ignition off. When I turn the car back on, I am able to shift into park. I have discovered that it will stop for a while after an oil change, and that it happens more frequently on warm days. It almost seems like some sort of brake sensor. At any rate, it is very dangerous, and should be a recall item based on the number of complaints I've seen on various websites.

Tucson EX 2.0L

Transmission issue in Dec 2013. Engine would not shift gears and the rpm would go up to 4000 rpm when going 45-52 and stay there. The engine was fixed under warranty at the time. HOWEVER, the same problem has started again this month, 2015. I have learned that once the issue was fixed and a new part was put in...that part had only 12 month warranty. So appears the same engine problem will be out of pocket to owner.

The engine is having same problem the Honda Accord EX 1998-2003 we're having. (not sure of exact years)

FYI, better check the new Hyundai loaner car policies at each dealership.

I have noticed many people on other forums complaining of this same issue!!! Mine started after my brakes were changed at Hyundai. The traction control light comes on and the down hill light too and when you try to park the gear selector will not move out of park!!!!!!!! There needs to be a recall!!!!!!!! This has happened at least four times this past week! The first time was 4 months ago and only happened twice in that time frame until this week now it is really bad and I need to get to the dealer and they need to fix it! I should not have to pay because it seems to be an on going issue!!!!!!

The gears would not shift from drive into park. I shut off the engine but could not remove the key. I had to leave the car as is with the engine off, the keys in the ignition and the gears stuck in drive.

There is a serious problem with the transmission. At random times you cannot put the car into park. We had a serious accident because of this. Hyundai is saying that it has something to do with the brake light switch but there has been no recall.

Dec 102011

Tucson GLS 2.4L Dohc 17 valve 4-Cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 5,716 miles

The gears would not shift from drive in to park. I shut off the engine but could not remove the key. I had to leave the car as is with the engine off, the keys in the ignition and the gears stuck in drive. After a half hour, I jiggled the key in the ignition until it turned on the lights and after a few minutes I was able to maneuver the gear shift handle in to park. On this first visit to the dealership, I was told that it was my fault because I had a litter bag handle draped over the gear shift handle. I removed it, of course, and it didn't happen again until July of 2012 which was 7 months later. When this re-occurred, there was nothing on the gear shift handle and they blamed it on the brake light switch. The brake light switch was replaced and a week later, the downhill function indicator light kept coming on even though I had not activated it. I was not able to turn the light off without shutting down the car and restarting it. I took it back to the dealership and once again, they blamed it on the brake light switch.

This is a serious safety issue! I complained to the dealer at Fairfax Hyndai and they said it is a brake light problem and to bring it in when it happens again. The problem is it happens randomly. It has happened 5 times in the last 3 months.

One time I could not park my car because I could not get my transmission in reverse. The transmission locks up. Another time I could not leave my house because I could not reverse. If i had to reverse to avoid an oncoming car or other dangerous situation, it could potentially be very serious safety issue.

I will be taking the car to the dealer next week. They'd better fix the problem.
