I got in my car and reversed out of my parking space. Then I put it into drive and started to accelerate, but the car kept moving backwards. I put it back and reverse and back into drive. It still kept moving backwards when I hit the accelerator. I turned the car off and on and tried again, still it would only move backwards. I turned it off and on again a few more times, cycled from park to drive to reverse a few times, still with the same result. I used the blue link to get a tow. After a few more off and on again and putting it into park, drive, reverse, it eventually moved forward instead of backwards, but the engine revved super high just to make it accelerate a tiny bit.
Of course this is completely absurd. The car has less than 3,000 miles on it and it already has transmission problems that make it unusable. There was no check engine light or anything else that would indicate something was wrong. The display showed it was in drive as did the shifter, yet still the car moved in reverse.
Update from Sep 7, 2016: There was an update to the transmission software that was released a few days ago. Fortunately for me, it was ready to be installed when my car got to the dealership. Apparently others have waited months and Hyundai has actually bought back a few cars under lemon laws.
The car does drive better overall now. I only experienced the issue once, so I have to take Hyundai at their word that the update fixed the issue.
