Traveling with wife and infant westbound 210 freeway in pasadena, ca. At highway speed. Wife and I heard a continuous, muffled clicking sound for 20-30 seconds. I felt a slight loss of engine power, at which point, I began making my way from the hov lane to exit. While moving over, I saw a puff of light gray smoke from the rear followed immediately by similar smoke and then some flames from under the hood. There was very little to no engine power at this time as I came to a stop on the shoulder, placed it in park and turned off the ignition. As we stopped, the flames became much greater. We were all able to quickly exit and get to a safe distance. As an aside, we had only days before received a recall notice for this vehicle from Hyundai to address a manufacturer defect that could cause spontaneous, non-collision engine fires. I had not had opportunity to take it in yet.

Vehicle is 2017 Hyundai Tucson with just under 60,000 miles on it. Maintained with regular oil and filter changes. While driving the vehicle 4 days ago, a rattling noise was noticed coming from the vehicle. When coming to a stop, vehicle started to almost stall, then engine and rpms raced, no indicator lights. Called the dealer that it was purchased from to have it looked at and schedule oil change service that it was just about due for, a recall to be done and have the issue looked at. Appointment was scheduled for the following week, but the vehicle didn't make it to the appointment. Yesterday, I drove most of the day with no issues, then suddenly when coming to a stop, started hearing a rattling and knocking coming from the engine really bad. Vehicle started to stall, still no indicator lights on. Vehicle did not stall and started going again until I started to slow down at another stop sign. Oil light started flashing erratically, engine light came on and vehicle died on the side of the road. Called dealership about the issue, they had me contact Hyundai roadside assistance to tow the vehicle to the dealership. Upon arrival at the dealership, the service advisor, before even having the vehicle checked out, stated that it's going to need a new engine, as if they are already aware of the issues concerning these vehicles.

As I was driving on the highway I noticed my mph starting to go down. My foot was all the way down on the gas and my mph started to go down. My car started making some noises and after a few minutes my mph shot down completely and I noticed smoke coming from the back of my car. I pulled over as quickly as I could to avoid getting hit by another vehicle. I turned off my car and had to get it towed. After doing my research it seems there have been issues with 2017 Hyundai Tucson engines that I wish I knew about before purchasing the vehicle !

I bought my 2017 with 38,000 miles on it and I drove a total of 400 miles a week for work. I had been taking it to the local Hyundai dealer for routine service and not one time did they mention that it was burning oil or even low when they would change it. We decided to start doing it ourselves and when my husband did the next oil change he noticed it was completely empty of oil and there were no leaks visible. 2,400 miles later my engine light comes on and we had to add 5 quarts of oil to the car and the ticking that I though was maybe the ac going or something like that, just suddenly stopped. It ran in my driveway the next morning for 10 to 15 min warming up for me to go to work. I drove 4 miles with no abnormalities in sound or drivability. Then all of a sudden I heard this loud screeching noise and my car died. I got it to start back a second time and was lucky enough that I coasted the 1/2 mile around hills and corners to be able to get pulled into a driveway and out of the road before it completely stopped rolling. It is now sitting at the carmax that I bought it from awaiting a new motor. I was informed that the root cause was apparently a bad ring or gasket in the 3rd cylinder that goes around the piston. My oil light never one time came on to tell me there was ever any issues nor did it give me any indication. I was up to date on my oil changes and it had only been 2,400 miles like I said, since the last one. It has 70,000 miles on it now and needs a brand new motor due to a motor malfunction that was caused by the manufacturing of the motor. Had I not been able to cost out of the road, I could have been seriously injured or killed just trying to get my car and myself to a safe location.

While traveling on the highway at approximately 75 miles per hour my vehicle suddenly stopped accelerating and smoke started to appear from under the hood and from the tail of the vehicle. After nearly being hit by a vehicle traveling behind mine I was able to pull over to the shoulder of the highway and exit the vehicle I observed flames and smoke coming from under the vehicle. The flames luckily extinguished on their own. After having the vehicle towed to the Hyundai dealership they confirmed that the engine had failed and that a piston had gone through the engine wall. This seems to be a common problem for Hyundai with these year vehicle and engine type so I wanted to make sure to report the incident.

Made appointment to correct recall at the dealership, then 1 week later they said there is currently no remedy to fix the recall. They don't know how long it will take, but will contact me to make a service appointment once they find a remedy. The problem if this recall is not fixed it can cause a fire in the engine. At this time, I was advised to only park outside to prevent a internal combustion in the engine.

I purchased 2017 Tucson brand new at roughly 22K my engine seized and the 3rd connecting rod failed. After engine replacement I continued to have problems with rear driver side brake light continuously going out, bulb is not out but wiring scorched and bulb somehow continuously becomes loose. I have replaced front headlights repeatedly with the driver front shattering in housing. I have also replaced calipers and have gone through 7 sets of rotors. At roughly 60000 I noticed I was running out of oil in between every 3000 mile oil change. Continued to bring back to dealer for repair S. I have complained multiple times about hesitation when pulling out from stop and engine knocking. Multiple oil pan reseal gaskets replaced fuel pump replaced, oil always all over engine. At 110K my engine failed a second time with Hyundai denying all claims. Originally said they would reimburse me for rental but when they emailed me letter for 'goodwill ' reimbursement it was a release from liability waiver if I took their 'goodwill '. I have informed them of electric issues and how I feel unsafe with new recall and fire possibility and they informed me as long as no warning light is on it should not be an issue. I tried to trade vehicle in and no one would take my trade, it's 3 years old and worth nothing. Hyundai response was vehicles don't hold their value like they used to. I am disgusted with their dismissive customer care, 2 engines in a vehicle 3 years old and they insist there is nothing wrong with their product.

When driving on the highway, driver experienced sudden nudge and white smoke started to show. Once pulled over, driver noticed the car is leaking. The ignition would not go. It was examined and showed that the rod punctured the engine as well as the oil filter, trailing oil for more than a mile. The oil was burning in the punctured engine and caused the smoke. The crank shaft broke in half not allowing starter to go as well.

My 2017 Hyundai Tucson consumes more than 3 quarts of oil between filter changes. I noticed the oil consumption around 36K miles. I have taken the car to southtown Hyundai (riverdale, ga) many times for this issue. The dealer did 3 oil consumption test, all failed. I was told nothing can be done at the moment. I even reached out to corporate, with no response back. The vehicle currently has 75K miles on the engine. Please help.

I have done a significant amount of research and found that the Hyundai Tucson has three potential problems that cause the issues with the stalling/low power on takeoff. I believe that part of it might be the transmission not engaging properly in 1st gear and that should be something they can fix with a computer update. The second from what I've read is that the fuel tank has a material flaking off on the inside of the fuel tank causing the fuel filter to be damaged/clogged. The third and from what I have read, the reason some of the Tucsons fail is a bad crank shaft. My guess is that the bad crank shaft happens over time and that the problems start with the fuel clogs. The fuel system needs to be examined to ensure that the "flaking off" material defect inside the tank is not the cause of the fuel filter being clogged and eventually the car fails. The loss of power is scary and dangerous and must be resolved. Wouldn't it be cheaper if Hyundai replaced all the fuel tanks on the cars with one that doesn't have a defective material coated on the inside of them rather than replace motors and keep doing work on them over and over and over?

When on any hill (reversing or forward), in heavy bumper to bumper traffic, and in some intermittent situations, the vehicle experiences a loss of power. The scariest part of this is that the car jolts quickly once it finally "finds a gear" and decides to go. When my car dies because it can't deal with slower bumper to bumper traffic, there's a problem! when I'm trying to backup on a hill and there's an object behind me and I nearly hit it because I can't get the car to go, it's a problem. It's a manufacturers problem that you and they keep ignoring! just like the fires that they ignored for years. The dealerships report to hundreds of customers that this is normal. It is not normal. From what I have found in my research, it's caused by a couple of things. The fuel filter is constantly dirty from whatever fuel tank coating Hyundai used on the inside of the fuel tank that is flaking off. The second reason is a problem with the dct. It should be engaging the 1st gear and it's not. It should be something as simple as an update with the computer systems but Hyundai doesn't care about keeping their customers safe. It's ridiculous that hundreds and thousands of people complain about these issues and nothing is done. Not an investigation until they get enough and someone pays a lawyer to do it.because this happens all the time, I am putting the estimated date of purchase like other customers have done on here.

NHTSA #20V543000 recall number 195 still has no remedy for this year model. The dealer I just bought my vehicle from has 13/14 certified pre owned with open recalls of this nature. I purchased and then was told I could not take it until the recall was fixed. Understandable and appreciated. The next day nobody would answer my texts or messages. Upon researching I see why. Obviously I do not want to drive my child around in a 'new' vehicle that might catch fire. Why do you allow them to continue to sell them" why isn't there a remedy after 2.5 years?!"
