The problem began in mid to late April 2024 with the Tucson shuddering in the driveway while moving forward slowly. The mileage was around 96,000 miles. Once on the road, it ran fine. Approximately a month later the check engine light came on and it began hesitating upon acceleration. It would change to the next gear, accelerate and slam me against the seat! Whenever I try to accelerate too fast, it hesitates and loses power until it "catches" and starts speeding up. This is very dangerous especially when accelerating from a complete stop or after a turn. It also has trouble going up a hill and has actually died out 2 or 3 times while attempting to go uphill at a low speed.

I am the second owner and it is out of warranty. I have contacted the local Hyundai dealer but their shop does not have a very good reputation and is always backed up for 3+ weeks. They also charge $230 or more to hook up their code reader!! I've already taken it to 2 other shops where that was done at no charge. The code was P073F - unable to engage gear 1. Of course the only option I've been given is to replace the transmission for $3000 or have it rebuilt for $4100. I really like this little SUV and its sporty look and handling. I get the oil changed every 5000 miles. Of course it's almost paid for but I'm afraid if I try to trade it in I probably will be lucky to even get enough to pay it off. I have been endlessly researching this online for updates or remedies. I want to know if replacing the entire transmission is the only option or is it a component of the transmission or a computer module that is the cause. How do I know the new transmission won't do the same thing?

I never imagined this would be a problem to my vehicle. I have already spent so much money on the fixes and now the dealer wants another 2600$ to fix the Dual clutch transmission. Clearly the problem is with Hyundai transmission, and the company should get this addressed without a cost to the customer.

Definitely the worst car ever! With less than 1000 miles, I started to notice that my car was shaking. I went to the dealer and they thought I was CRAZY. They said- your car drives fine... we don't see anything wrong with it. They connected their diagnose machine and car came out clean. My car had ZERO problems and I was just crazy. So they reset the software and that was the end of my day.

Again, I'm stuck in traffic with my baby in the car and my car starts slipping, can't get it into gear. Every time I press the gas car shakes. Made an appointment to the dealer and one more time their response "nothing is coming out in the computer, we will reset the software for you."

That went on until my car hit 13000 miles. I finally got the service tech manager to go on a test drive. I said to him " let me buy you a soda, and take you to a drive true" he noticed the hesitation and told me that YES, Hyundai is having a lot of issues with their DTC engines I finally then saw some light.

I called corporate HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA left a message, they called me back living me a message. I never was able to get a hold of this guy months went on (3) numerous messages etc, I finally got a hold of someone and they said that my first claim had been closed. I reopen another claim and hen I first spoke to someone on the phone they open another claim and months went by lots of back and forth went Hyundai finally gave me two options: buy the car back leaving me with NO vehicle or they will give me $5K to keep the problem.

You know which one I chose...Hyundai keep your vehicle, and keep your problem.

I would never get into another HYUNDAI again.

Just starting down the path to get this fixed, it has gotten bad enough to have to be fixed or I am going to have an accident. I’ve noticed that also randomly it won’t hold on a hill. We bought the 10 year warranty so I wasn’t worried until it got dangerous. I’m not letting my wife drive it at this point.

As others reported as well - you make a turn right or left, joining traffic, press acceleration and the car does nothing... You may even push the pedal to the floor, engine roars at 5-6k and the car does not move at all or moves extremely slowly... You watch the cards approaching from the back and start to pray...

The service did not find anything wrong. But of course...

I barely escaped few accident situations because the approaching drivers were cautious enough about something wrong going on with my car, not moving.

The issue is dual clutch transmission (DCT), in 2017 renamed to "Automated Manual" and I'm not sure if that's the one made by Hyundai or all cars with it have same problems, but NEVER again buy one, if you don't want to die because of somebody's stupid design... Good old automatic transmission is much, much better.

If you know if there is any pending class lawsuit please let me know, I want to join. Hyundai did not make any effort to keep me informed before I purchased that thing...

We bought this vehicle in March 2017 for my wife. Chose it over several because we liked the features and syle. Within 3 months my wife began complaining that it would basically stall when trying to accelerate from a complete stop, or when going very slow. We took it in service and mentioned the problem to the service advisor. They said they could find no problem. It continued with this problem for several more months. We took it in again for service in July 2018 for this problem. They test drove it, and told us there was a problem, and that they would replace the transmission under warranty. Took 5 days because they couldn't source a replacement quickly, likely because there were very few around!! Well, within a few weeks, she told me it was doing it again. I took it in for service again October 31, 2018. They could find no problem. Told us drive it in Sport Mode, and that should solve the problem?? She has had a couple of close calls when turning left into oncoming traffic, and is now scared to drive it because she feels it's unsafe. This is completely unacceptable! We are going to trade it in for something else. My advice is don't buy a Hyundai!

My car has been in the dealership three times since I've owned it due to problems accelerating. The car will rev and the RPMs skyrocket to the 5 and 6 mark, but the car doesn't accelerate. This is extremely dangerous! The first time it was in the dealership, they replaced the sensor. When it happened again, the dealership had my car for over 2 weeks trying to diagnose the problem.

Eventually I was told that Hyundai corporate is aware of the issue and will be issuing a recall soon, but in the meantime they "fixed" it by placing zip ties to hold the sensors in place.

The third time I took it in, the zip ties had moved and needed to be replaced. Still no word of any recall. I continue to experience the issue. I feel like Hyundai is in breach of contract. I purchased a Sport model and am not receiving that turbo acceleration. I also purchased the car based on a specific MPG range and am definitely not reaching these because of engine acceleration issues.

My car is brand new and I worry about the long-term issues once the warranty expires. I also worry about my safety in the car. Very, very frustrated. When I called to make an appointment at the dealership, the service scheduler mentioned that many Tucson models had been having the same issue. However, Hyundai denies it's a widespread issue.

I don't scare easily, but when I attempted to accelerate for a lane change and the car didn't respond AT ALL for at least 30 seconds, I was scared. When I took it to the dealer the next work day and they couldn't find anything, I was puzzled. When they reported that three of their men had driven it without a problem, I felt outnumbered and angry. I'm not finished with this.

I also have a 2017 Hyundai Tucson with 1,771 miles purchased new like most people on this site. I have the same fears for my family, myself as well as people around me when I drive this vehicle. I was having issues but I didn't actually know what was causing this. I realized it actually was serious problem when I had about 950 miles on the SUV.

Before I go into further detail I want everyone to know I spoke to a very helpful individual from the United States Department of Transportation National Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). I was told that this concern as well as any other transportation safety concern that we have will not be dealt with unless we contact this department directly. These are the people that determine if our vehicle presents a potential safety risk. So please even if you posted a complaint elsewhere can you please go to www.nhtsa.gov go to the report a problem tab at the bottom of the page and voice your concern. Hopefully if we all speak out on this site they will issue the recall for our SUV's.

I myself have no issues when I start driving my SUV. My problem usually happens after I have been driving for at least 15 to 20 minutes or if I stop the vehicle and it sits for a half hour and proceed to my next destination.

The following has happened a few times. I drive to the end of my Dr's office parking lot without a problem as I merge onto the busy intersection knowing I have plenty of time to go. I attempt to make a left turn apply pressure to the gas pedal, my SUV slowly moves into oncoming traffic. The RPM'S rev , but the vehicle barely moves. I now have cars coming down a hill on a busy intersection and the car behind me slams on their brakes because they thought I was going. I apply more pressure to the gas, I now have power, sometimes to much. This is very scary.

I have also experienced times when at a red light turning green, everyone eager to go, I apply pressure to the gas and the same thing.The car revs and edges forward. I apply more pressure to the gas and it eventually rockets. I am going to cause an accident and it will be at the hand of Hyundai.

I did call and explain my concern to Hyundai and they said they never heard of this, but I could bring it in for an appointment. A few weeks later I scheduled a 6 month oil change. I asked them, since I was leaving it for an extended period of time, could they please check my concerns and I explained my issues again. I went back a few hours later and they said they found nothing and no codes came up to explain any issues, but if I wanted I could leave it for three days at a future date so they could spend an extended period of time with it. I kept checking back with them and they never had a loner, so they never ended up taking it as of yet. We decided to go back a few weeks later for the paperwork from the oil change since they never gave it to us that day. They told us they never ended up doing the oil change. The more complaints that NHTSA has the better off we all are. They are the people that decide if a recall is needed. Please forward this email address to anyone you know that has this issue or any issue for that matter that affects a car, baby seat, anything that will make traveling on our roads safer for all of us.

This site lists this same problem under engine, transmission, power train, miscellaneous, etc. The problem is interpreted as different things by everyone. This is the same issue that was a huge problem for the 2016 Tucson. I just wish I knew of this issue prior to making my purchase. After two years of the same problem the only way they should address this issue is to replace the transmission already with something that is safe for all of us.

OMG, I just saw on this site I am not the only one with this problem! It started a few weeks after a got my NEW Tuscan in Oct 2017.

The transmission dual clutch is a serious hazard. I was almost t-boned 3x when I am making a left turn. I had accelerated, then floored the pedal and the car merely coasted with a 5 second delay, praying that the car would catch and I would not be hit by the traffic that's coming from the front or behind me.

So I made an appointment with the local Hyundai dealer after it was occurring every 2nd day. They told me its known and my car has to stay for a few days or weeks to find the problem. (that sounded helpful) Then they told me, a mechanic has to drive it and take it home to see if a warning light comes on. I told them, a warning light never ever came on, but no response. So after 3 days (I had to call every day for updates) I asked so what now? They told me the car is fine and no problem, so I picked it up. Grrrrrrrr.......

So guess what, the next day it happened 3x on my way home from work that is 40 min away.

Hyundai needs to make this RIGHT, or do I have to get hurt or worse before I get help????

Update from Apr 11, 2018: I was so mad that no one wants to fix this problem. Hyundai Cooperate told me to go to a different Hyundai dealer and take a long ride with a Tec. I told him I am working I cannot drive around in town till the know have to fix it. So I trade my new Tuscan in for a different Make. BUT the cherry on top of this drama was, that the dealer in Denver Colorado ( Hyundai Arapaho ) sold me an front wheel drive! We went to the dealer with my new Kia with front wheel drive to get an all wheel drive. And the whole time we asked, this is an all wheel drive and ever time they said YES!

I was driving on the interstate with the cruise set at 70. I attempted to pull out and pass a slower vehicle. When I stepped on the gas the car felt like it shifted to neutral. It began to DECELERATE. Speed dropped from 70 to 40 before problem. This continued for the next 200 miles. Car is at the dealer(third time for this). I WILL NOT DRIVE THIS CAR AGAIN UNTIL THEY FIND AND FIX THE PROBLEM. THIS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE!!
