The Collision Avoidance System is pretty much a joke. I have set mine for "early" warning and when it does go off it does so far to late to actually prevent an accident had I not already noticed that a car was slowing down or stopping short in front of me. As far as getting an initial warning, then a second warning and then the car taking over and applying braking to avoid collision. It does not happen. I would have slammed into the back of the car in front of me today had I not noticed he was slamming on his brakes and initiated braking myself. The alert system did go off one time when I was far to close for it to make an difference. To date I have not had more than one warning from the system under any circumstance. Also on a separate matter the lane keeping assist is spotty at best when it does work and I am not sure if it is actually a functional safety feature or just an annoyance. At least they let you turn that off.

As I was driving down interstate doing 70mph all of a sudden the front collision and side collision alerts started going off and it braked my vehicle super hard. It stopped so hard it threw both my wife and I forward in our seats. The Rpm’s stayed at 4 and wouldn’t down shift at all after I let off the gas trying to figure out what was happening and pull over. I finally got to pull over and shut the vehicle off and turned it back on and it drove like nothing ever happened. I brought it into the shop since it is still brand new. They looked at it and said they don’t see nothing wrong with it and gave it back to me.

The problem is that the front collision avoidance system does not function as the salesman explained or as the owner's manual details. It is essentially a LIE that it even has one. I took it back to the dealership, and explained my concerns. They drove it, with another employee in the car in front of us. We got within 1/2 car length of the car in front of us before it beeped a warning. This was with it set on early! If the car had been stopped we would have had a beep just before we rear ended it! This is not as the manual describes. It says you should get a warning, then a second warning, then the car should brake.( Not a complete stop. I DO understand the limitations!) I have tested this at various speeds, in various situations (such as cars stopped at red lights) Dealership is trying to tell me that it works as designed. They are treating me as if I have unreal expectations. All I want it to do is what the owners manual says it will do. I feel that Hyundai is perpetrating an out and out LIE. This system supposedly has three settings for the warning: Early, normal, and late. This is an absolute JOKE. Unfortunately, I am not laughing. I am very interested to hear if any other owners of this vehicle are experiencing the same problem. I believe Hyundai has a BIG problem with this car. So far, they are not offering me any solutions.
