I received a recall for an engine knock sensor. Took the car to the dealer only to be told if they do the knock sensor recall it will put the car in an unusable condition. The car has 158k miles and has check engine light on and the engine is knocking. After researching this model, I saw a lot of people with the same issue. The dealer said the motor has to be replaced! It is aparently a manufacturer defect. The car has been properly maintained and is now unusable. This is totally unacceptable. The manufacturer should be liable for selling a defective product. Engine will basically explode with fire a real possibility.

Since I got the car in 2015 I have been taking it to the Hyundai dealership for all maintenance. I kept telling them that it feels like it-??s driving hesitant or pushed to go. I took my car in for a routine oil change and my car came back not running. They said my car needed an update. They did so without my permission. Then was told I needed a new transmission. A month later I-??m driving down the road my car was on but not driving like it would not go. I had to get it towed. They said it was the cat converter. Well the car was still was having the same issue after that was fixed. I was driving down I-4 to go to the dr and my car suddenly slowed down and would not go I couldn-??t get over and was almost rear ended. I took it back to Hyundai. They said it was a knock sensor. Fixed it. Was coming from Orlando 24 hours later and the car slowed down on its own again with a big semi behind me and my daughter was in the car. Hyundai refuses to fix the engine that-??s a GDI that is recalled in the turbo Veloster because mine is base model. I also have a 2015 Hyundai Elantra hatch back that shows the same signs as my Veloster they both have GDI engines. Please feel free to contact me at [XXX] or [XXX]. And this has been doing this since before my mileage was high and it was below 60,000. I do have copies of all maintenance that was done at the dealership. If you have and email I can forward all invoice. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I purchased this car in September 2020 from a dealership and had no knowledge that there was an open recall on the vehicle. My son was driving the car home from school when in what he describes as the car losing all power with a rumbling noise. Smoke began coming from under the hood. He immediately pulled over. He was at a red light and had reached about 35 mph when the engine failed. He immediately pulled over about 200 to 300 feet from where he was had accelerated from at the red light. The vehicle was towed to the Hyundai dealership. After inspection it was reported that the open recall campaign was addressed on the vehicle however the damage caused by the recall was not fixed by the dealership. The dealership gave a quote of $9100 to replace the engine which through a rod through the engine block, a new starter, a new intake manifold and a new turbo. The dealership advised that they would only address the computer software update to address the pre ignition issue that leads to engine failure or fire but would not fix the damage caused by the recall. This is very unfortunate that automakers can build cars that they issue recalls on and only be responsible for fixing the recall and not the damage caused due to the recall. I should have never been sold a car with an open recall that was not addressed before purchase. My sons life was put at risk as well as other motorist. He broke down on an extremely busy highway. Highway 501 in Conway South Carolina. The car began smoking and could have caught fire. I am floored that a country like ours does not place more accountability on automakers and dealerships.

Connecting rod failure. A test was ran on my car and this code came up even though my check engine light was off. There is a rattling when accelerating and a decrease in speed when accelerating. The rattling began a little less than a year ago so I took it to a shop but they said it couldn-??t be fixed because the engine is enclosed. Basically to fix this issue I would need an entire new engine and it is already causing major issues on my vehicle. This is a safety issue because the engine could just fail.

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated while her husband was driving approximately 20-25 mph, he heard an abnormally loud sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle started to shake with the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact stated her husband was able to pull to the side of the road, where he noticed that smoke was coming from under the hood. Additionally, there was oil leaking from the engine. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that there was a large hole in the cylinder block. The fire was started due to a mixture of fuel and oil. The contact was informed by the mechanic that the failure was related to NHTSA campaign number: 19V204000 (Electrical System, Engine) however, the recall repair was already completed on the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the failure was not related to the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that she was responsible for the cost of repair since the vehicle was out of warranty. The approximate failure mileage was 69,204.

Hyundai denied my claim for reimbursement for an engine issue. They stated that the VIN is not included in the recall. However, my mechanic is the one who bought the issue to my attention. He believes this recall should also apply to this vehicle. He said he is willing to discuss the repair with any interested parties. My mechanic is Auto Accents located in Lakewood NJ. His name is Nick and he can be reached at 732-905-5088. I only ask that review the attached receipt, speak with my mechanic, and consider adding this VIN to the recall.

On five separate occasions the vehicle engine has shut off completely while driving in traffic. Fortunately my wife was able to coast to the side of the road, but in all instances a serious road hazard and danger to safety for both us as well as the public was created. We are now no longer driving the vehicle out of fear of our safety. We have contacted the Hyundai dealership where all the prior 4+ years of service has been done, as well as Hyundai USA. Both have said they will not investigate. After the first two occurrences, I was told the original engine needed to be replaced due to metal shavings in the internal components. This is the exact same reason for the recent global recall, however Hyundai said our model was not covered under the warranty even though it was the same issue. We had the Hyundai Dealership replace the engine and within one month it happened again. This time they said the catalytic converter/exhaust manifold had failed again (this was the third catalytic converter). Since then, the engine has shut off two more times while driving. A local certified mechanic has inspected it and said he has seen several similar problems with other Hyundai vehicles. Hyundai USA refuses to address the issue.

While driving at 65+ mph on a major highway, car suddenly lost all power. I pulled over and all lights on cluster popped on at the same time (check engine, low oil, low tire pressure, low battery, etc), and then lights turned off. There were no error codes when read with a obd scanner. Car still ran, but would not move, all power was lost. After having it towed, it was found that the catalytic converter had clogged, and for some reason did not throw an error code. This happened on a busy highway with no warning, and could have been very dangerous if I hadn't been able to pull over.
