Power steering couple noise and alignment problem standing and driving
- Hialeah, FL, USA
The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal clunking sound coming from the steering wheel. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where she was informed that there was a fractured coupling within the steering column that needed to be replaced. The contact then spoke with clay cooley Hyundai of mesquite (16230 lyndon B johnson fwy, mesquite, tx 75150) where she was informed that there were no recalls on the vehicle. The contact reached out to the manufacturer via email however, there was no response. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.

Clunk and lag in the steering caused by worn rubber coupler mdps - after 48000 miles - appears to be a known issue with no recall/warranty
- Lexington, SC, USA
Out of the blue my steering wheel seem to become loose and starting making a click sound when turned turned to the right or left. Although other Hyundai vehicles have recalls for the same problem, my Veloster is not. It is a known problem for this car maker and they will not cover the huge bill to repair it unless you are still under a warranty. It is not safe!

My steering wheel was dramatically clunking whenever I turned it. After taking it to a mechanic, he informed me that it was the steering coupler issue, which is apparently a problem on multiple vehicles which are being covered under an extended warranty, but not mine. I don't understand why this part, which has obviously failed in the past, is being covered under warranty on other vehicles. I have provided a picture of the part once it was removed. It is quite clearly a safety issue which could have had fatal consequences. After being charged roughly $250 in labor, I found out the part was $1.53. It is sickening that a 2014 Veloster with 56,000 miles on it should have this problem.

Clacking noise within steering wheel (defective coupler) vehicle makes noise while in motion during any traffic situation and including turning.
- Miami, FL, USA
Power steering coupler is defective and makes a rattling sound when vehicle is in motion. Several other models have been issued recalls on this part but not the Veloster. I'm wondering how much safer it is to drive Veloster this way as opposed those huyndai models that were recalled.

Steering wheel when stationary makes a clunking noise when turning left to right at the steering column. When driving it feels loose and also makes a clunking noise when steering on the road, when reaching higher speeds on the highway it would vibrate the steering wheel. I stoped by a local auto mechanic and he told me that Hyundai's have this problem and I should take back to dealership to have fixed. He told me it was the steering coupler. I purchase 2 Hyundai Veloster in 2014 and both vehicles have now had this replaced both under 35,000 miles. But this one was out of warranty when it happened but was under 35,000 miles. This shouldn't be happening at this milage.

This car will not drive in a straight line and cannot center again by itself. The driver must constantly correct left to right. If you drive in the winter on clear roads interrupted by icey patches, the car breaks loose immediately. In a recent snow squall on route 81, pa I was the only car struggling to go straight on the highway. It was chilling and dangerous. This car needs a recall. Google Veloster steering problems.

I purchased my 2014 Veloster turbo right off of the showroom floor. When I was driving home, 90 miles from the dealership, I noticed it was really hard to keep my car straight in the road. I physically have to force my car to stay straight on the straightest highways. I took it to the dealership the next day and it was found to be out of alignment. They aligned it, only to experience the same issue driving back home. I have now had my vehicle in to 3 different Hyundai dealerships and have records of the adjustments. It is still not aligned making it very difficult to drive safely. At 5K miles we were driving on a road trip and had been driving all day. We were getting back on the interstate and my check engine light started flashing and my car started slowing down even though I was trying to accelerate. It cleared up and I drove a few more miles when it acted up again, this at 65 mph. Same issues flashing lights, slowing from 65 to 30 as my car felt it was not getting any power. I was able to report it to my bluelink, although it did not show on their end. This has been checked several times by Hyundai, although they are not able to detect or duplicate the issue. It continues to happen to me. I am to the point where I am frightened to drive it anymore. Not only for my safety but for others as well. I have a total of 7 service records with no answers except, if it happens again come right in and hopefully the computer will tell us. The alignment was done 5 times and took in 6, although it is still all over the road. The answer I get for the alignment now is, " customer may also not be used to electronic steering system". I am a 43 year old man that has been driving for almost 30 years. I have another vehicle with electronic steering that drives straight on the same roads. Thanks for your time...
