Veracruz

  • 78,900 miles
My ABS, ESC and AWD dash lights illuminated on my 2008 Hyundai Veracruz. Ran codes to find out the rf and lr wheel sensors were giving an error, as well as the brake switch. Checked fittings and found no missed connections with the wheel sensors, and when I started the car back up, all lights on the dash turned off. When the car got up to 30mph, the ESC light started flashing, the AWD light illuminated, and my vehicle acted as if it was driving in heavy snow (stalling, slowing, and acceleration failing). After putting the car in park, turning it off, and starting it back up, all lights were again off. Same issue repeated itself, and then the ABS, ESC and AWD lights illuminated again, and the car drove fine. Took to the dealer to get diagnosed. Fearful of sudden malfunction during expressway driving to cause a serious accident.

The ABS light, ESC light, traction control light, all wheel drive light came on the dash, made appt with dealer (03/25/2015) and was told that I would need left & right side rear wheel speed sensors. The vehicle is a 2008 which was purchased May 2009 and has only 26417 miles on it and was told that it was out of warranty. Bin on the internet and seen that this is a common problem with this car. I am hoping that you will look into this and do something about this. Thank you for any help you can give me and the rest of the owners of this vehicle.

Started car, ESC off, AWD, and ABS warning lights stayed on. After a few minutes driving there was a whirring noise in the engine compartment on the drivers side. Stepping on the brakes made the noise go away, noise returned when releasing the brakes. Repair shop diagnosed it to be the ABS module which needed to be replaced.

The ABS module is faulty because of the defective wiring harness. The harness is susceptible to live environmental elements especially during winter due to the high salt use on roads especially in the states with harsh winter. This problem creates a safety hazards and render the vehicle operation in a stall mode. Over time it could causes fire hazard, sudden acceleration cruise control lock with no release option that could results in a crash. It could cause other components failures like main PCM module and side modules of the vehicle. The harnesses on the Veracruz are not sealed properly and highly defectives.

Car was driving ok since we have acquired it. No problems, no issues until we had a snow storm when my wife driving home from my children's school the cruise control got stuck and would not release. She put the car in neutral and the engine RPM kept going up. She turned the car off then restarted in 5 mins it was ok with all light in cluster on. Diagnosed the car with wheel speed sensor rr. It drove for 1 hour then all light came back on. Took it to deal for the open recall I found online about my model car. Dealer changed all recall problems but light is on. Now the dealer said no communication to the car's computer can bus. Checked with my local mechanic and said it is the ABS hydraulic pump and module affixed to it. It is shorted out inside and causes interference with the computer system. The cost of parts is well over 2600 plus labor.

I brought my vehicle November 9, 2013. Shortly after buying this vehicle, I have had brakes, pads, rotors, all around the vehicle three times in less than a year. I called the dealership to see if there was a recall on the brakes. I even call the company. I even took it to the dealer ship and they stated that there was nothing wrong with my brakes. That is the fourth incident. I am still having the same problem. Every now and again the brakes act like they do not want to stop and it is dangerous. I am not liking this at all. I have to brake about a thousand feet or more for the vehicle to come to a complete stop. I cannot drive up close behind anyone at times. It is starting to do it more and more an not even the dealership know what is wrong with the brakes. I do not remember the mileage, it was shortly after buying the vehicle. At the time it had over 95,000 miles on it. This is only a guess on mileage.

We have a well maintained 2008 Hyundai. Like some others we have reported we also have an issue where the ABS, ESC (traction control) and sometimes the park brake lights will illuminate. They will stay on for a while and then turn off again with no rhyme or reason. When the lights are on the traction control and ABS systems are disabled, making the car unsafe to drive. Our car is not old and has been well cared for... it seems ridiculous that this type of issue is occurring.

All brakes lights came on initially. Then when driving, the car started losing power and stalled. Thankfully I was on a county road with a driveway I was able to exit on. Otherwise on a busy highway it could have been very dangerous. The part that failed was an ABS modulator valve assembly. It cost $2,615.06 to fix. Also, I'm concerned it was replaced with the exact same part, which will most likely fail again! the Hyundai part no. Is: 58910 3J950 hydraulic module.

On many occasions, specifically on 8/26/2010 (odo: 16204), 7/29/2013 (odo: 48833), and 12/30/13 (odo: 52877) that are a matter of documentation, among others, I advised Hyundai that I was experiencing a brake problem which I variously described S "squeak, " "shudder, " and "plunk." They were never able to identify the cause of these disturbing sounds until recently, shortly after the expiration of the warranty. Hyundai has now finally identified the problem as replacement of the hecu for the ABS. I talked to the service manager; he said that corrosion had been noted in these units before. This conversation suggests that Hyundai had a body of knowledge concerning the hecu issue. Instead of waiting to "duplicate" the problem, they should have investigated and inspected the hecu while it was still under warranty. Now the problem will cost me $2600.

ESC off, ABS & airbag lights are on for the Hyundai Veracruz. As few users of complained here this seems like an issue that other people have as well. I would request NHTSA look into this and have Hyundai take care of this. www.Hyundai-forums.com/Veracruz-forum/151125-ESC-off-ABS-AWD-light.html.

My airbag and ESC lights went off and I took the car to dealership. They are saying that both the control modules (ABS, airbag) need to be replaced and the parts alone cost around $2600. The car is out of warranty because of 5 year period (bought in Sept 2008) even though the mileage is less than 60K. There were multiple recalls on this vehicle and it seems like these modules should not be failing for 50K miles. I have heard multiple people complaining about the issue and I think Hyundai should get the control modules replaced.

Three warning lights came on in vehicle. ESC, abf, parking!brake were the lights that lit up on dashboard. Took vehicle in to local mechanic and he ran computer diagnostics on it, it came up with internal failure of the hydraulic electronic control unit. I called Hyundai customer care line and was told there were currently no recalls on this problem, but they did file my complaint and said that they take notice of trends and do research when enough problems happen, he encouraged me to file a complaint here as well. He also said that should Hyundai recall this problem I could be reimbursed the $2400 this is going to cost to get it fixed. Vehicle only has 45,000 miles on it, and is only 6 years old, too young and not enough miles for something like this happen. I did speak with a Hyundai dealer service dept and they said they have not seen this in the Veracruz but have seen it more in the sonata.

This vehicle went out of control when trying to park. When I tried to move stick to park, the vehicle took off with 70 - 80 miles an hour. Once it took off like plane, I had no control over this vehicle. I tried to stop it but brakes did not work, steering was locked and can not turn off ignition either. Vehicle traveled about 800 - 1000 ft before it stopped. Vehicle finally came to stop by trees. Steering, brakes and gas nothing worked as expected and I had no control over this vehicle. This vehicle went through this ordeal in children play area and luckily it was early in the morning and no one was in play area. Imagine if this vehicle was on interstate, major intersection or us / state hwy. This vehicle is road hazard and may cause serious accidents and possibly loss of life. I have also contacted Hyundai and they have opened up case to check but want NHTSA to investigate the issue so we have neutral outcome V/S just Hyundai. I wanted to bring up this matter to your attention so proper investigation should be completed for this vehicle to avoid loss of property or lives. Please contact me for more details.

I was having issues with the brakes and it came to the point after replacing the pads and rotors and almost crashing into the cars in front of me that I took it to the dealer. I thought it may just need an adjustment on the computer but the diagnosis was "internal failure of the hydraulic electronic control unit".. I am shocked because the car is only 5 years old. I started doing research and found that the Hyundai genesis was recalled for this very same reason. The dealer wants $2600 to replace it and told me they had not heard of this happening with a Veracruz. If the same components or fluid was used in the Veracruz as was used in the genesis - it would have the same issues but I don't see any recalls. I was told my car is dangerous to drive but I don't have $2,600 to dish out to get it fixed. I would like some assistance in finding out if other Hyundai Veracruz owners have reported the same. How does a recall get issued?

The contact owns a 2008 Hyundai vera cruz. The contact stated while driving approximately 2 mph making a turn, the engine stalled with the illumination of the ABS, ESC and another brake warning indicator. The engine restarted and resumed normally. The failure was recurring. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer, who stated that the ABS hydraulic control assembly would require replacement. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified problem. The approximate failure mileage was 50,000. The VIN was available.

While driving down the highway (approx. Speeds of 65 mph), while raining, the vehicle started to stutter, speedometer jumped around, and the ESC off, ABS and AWD warning lights flashed and then stayed on. Once the lights stayed on (no longer flashing) it seemed as though the vehicle drove "normal." After a day of driving with the lights on they would turn off and problem wouldn't come on again until their was some sort of moisture/precipitation happening; and then once dry would turn off again. Had dealer check vehicle (at the time of check no lights/symptoms occurring) and they said it required a new hecu unit and a new wheel speed sensor (approx. Cost $3,200). They could neither explain why it only happened when it was wet and did not want to troubleshoot beyond the basic code check. Hyundai was contacted and they offered no help - it was only 1,000 over warranty by the time we were able to have it looked at by dealer (which also took 2 weeks to set up appointment with Hyundai tech). Dealer cleared codes and put dielectric grease on the connections. Had no problems for 7 months, and then problem reappeared. Only now the problem is a severe safety risk to myself and others around me. There is no telling (can occur at any speed and doesn't matter how long car has been on or how far driven) when the systems mentioned will fail, and when the lights start flashing I have no ability to accelerate the vehicle until all the lights turn steady and stay on. If this were to happen when pulling out/across traffic it could turn fatal. A quick check on the internet and one will find a host of complaints relating to this same problem. A recall needs to be issued before someone is injured!

Driving less than 40 mph and multiple lights came on, almost simultaneously. First ESC off, ABS and parking brake lights. Then momentarily afterwards check engine and TPMS lights came on. Took it to stealership, said the brake control module was bad and needed to be replaced. Car kept in excellent condition with freq oil changes and proper tire maintenance. Est cost to repair $2,800. Out of warranty and was told that they haven't seen anything like this in their shop.

This car loses power and the ability to control it via power steering, power brakes, and sometimes completely shuts down when operating under rainy conditions and wet roadways. It has happened five times. I have never been traveling at a high rate of speed, but for a split second codes appear and I have no control of the car. There is a moment of panic and then the car comes back to life and everything is operational. The dealer has not been able to diagnose.
