I was driving home from work after picking my [XXX] daughter up from school. The car started making a noise I hadn-??t heard before while I was traveling on [XXX] in Huntsville, AL. I got off at the nearest exit to take it to the place that changes my oil. The car didn-??t travel more than a few miles before the oil light flashed and car just shut off and wouldn-??t start in the second to far right lane of [XXX] It was busy rush-hour traffic and I had to contact AAA for towing as well as non-emergency police to avoid being rear-ended. The police arrived within 15 minutes and the tow truck within 45 minutes. While I waited, I contacted the place that performs my oil changes and was advised that there-??s a class action lawsuit against Hyundai for the known issue of engine failure with my vehicle and they advised I have it towed to dealership for repair under the lawsuit. The next day, a mechanic contacted my ex-husband (who contacted AAA for towing of the vehicle) to advise it would be 2 days before diagnosis could occur. I called Friday, November 8th and was told vehicle is past warranty (at 161,000 miles); no appointment was made so would take several weeks to diagnose and I needed to pay $155.99 for diagnosis. I explained details shared with me about lawsuit and was told my vehicle wasn-??t included. I contacted Hyundai Corporate and was told the same but advised that they are aware of oil consumption issues which could cause engine failure and asked that they do the right thing and repair vehicle. Claim#[XXX] was provided and I was told to wait for Case Manager to call within 2 business days. It is unfair of these manufacturers to take advantage of unknowing consumers who aren-??t mechanics and have vehicles serviced as they should. It-??s also unfair to expect those consumers to not trust the information shared by the mechanics servicing the vehicle. I want the vehicle repaired or to receive a check for value of vehicle. It-??s fair. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B

The contact owns a 2009 Hyundai Veracruz. The contact stated that while driving 50 mph, the headlights started to dim as the vehicle began to stall without warning. The contact was able to coast the vehicle into a service center however, the mechanic was unable to diagnose the failure. The contact then had the vehicle towed to an independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle with a defective alternator due to oil leakage from the engine. The contact then received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 20V705000 (engine and engine cooling) which she linked to the failure. Neither the manufacturer nor the dealer were notified of the failure. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 189,000.

Around Sept. 2017, while in motion on city street. Vehicle's 2 warning lights turned on, 1st was check engine, then not long after that oil warning lights. Luckily I wasn't to far from home that the vehicle didn't stop running and made it home. So when I got home I told my husband about it. Before checking engine compartment he noticed oil dripping and coolant dripping under the car down to the ground. And it was a lot of spillage that it empty both oil and coolant from car. He opened hood engine compartment to check the level of oil and find's it was low of oil. At the same time he noticed oil leakage coming from the valve cover section, leaking down to alternator and covered with oil. After that he visually checked the radiator and there was no coolant, it was empty. So since then I never ran the car or was out of service. I was too busy back then and no money to get it fix. Luckily I have another car to get around with. So just recently, a friend mentioned to go online and checked to see if any recall for this vehicle's problem or make a complain. Hopefully it's a manufacture's problem and will like a respond, so I can get this car rolling again.

Pulled into parking place and went to place Veracruz from drive to park and it jumped forward a little and gear shift was locked the ESC light did come on showing "off". I would not allow me to shift into park and brake pedal was locked. I was only able to put into neutral and turn Veracruz off and apply emergency parking brake. Doors will open but will not turn engine over. Lights flash as if but will not start. There is no dashboard lights to indicate anything wrong, the ESC light went away. I was pulling into parking spot and not driving down the road. My VIN is not in recall but should be looked into.
