problem #1

Jan 012013

Veracruz Limited 3.8L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

I’m currently on my 5th or 6th alternator (I unfortunately paid for the first one, because the Recall hadn’t been issued yet, and Hyundai of course never refunded me).

The gasket seal is leaking again, so this current alternator will fail soon also. Hyundai did issue a revised Recall, since their previous solution obviously didn’t solve the problem — but I haven’t taken it to the dealer yet because last time it took them 4 weeks (and they still didn’t fix the downstream electrical issues this problem has caused). They wanted to charge me over $1,000 for a new wire harness yet they couldn’t guarantee me it would fix the problem.

For the past 5-6 years, my battery is ruined within a year and will no longer hold a charge.

Don’t get me wrong… the car has been great and currently has over 210,000 miles — and the only major repair (other than what’s mentioned above, plus a few small recalls) was a new transmission module (albeit, a very expensive replacement).
