G35 Coupe 3.5L Vq35de

  • Automatic transmission

The problem originally started when I had a faulty starter, during the period of fixing the starter I had attempted to start the car quite a few times to diagnose the issue and this is where the NATS (Nissans Anti Theft System) started to rear its ugly head. After fixing the starter and finally having crank to the engine I found that the car would still not start, so I had it taken to a dealership.

That's when I found out how nasty these cars can be when dealing with electrical issues, the car itself was stuck at the dealership for a month. During this time INFINITI was not readily equipped to deal with their older cars, it required the dealership getting older hardware and software to program the car, once they had acquired that, we began diagnosing. First we tried a new key fob, no luck, then we then moved onto the NATS antenna, this partially solved the issue, the car could now start and run but needed a physical key and the wireless key fob was now dead in the water. The next step was to replace the BCM (Body Control Module) as it was most likely the cause of the lockout. Seeing as the car was running and driving I decided to cut my losses, this ran up a bill of 1500$ CAD, the dealership was nice enough to knock it down to 1000$. Currently the car is running just fine but I would highly advise anyone to NOT screw with the electricals in these cars as this system is very tricky and can lead to an expensive bill.
