A gasket inside the timing chain cover failed allowing oil to seep inside and cover a sensor that causes the vehicle to go into limp mode. It then must be towed for repairs. In this case the warranty had expired, but due to the low miles and having followed the maintenance schedule at the dealership, Infiniti came through and covered the cost of repairs. I still own and enjoy driving that vehicle to this day and will for many years to come.
It's a "J" car that has not experienced any additional issues other than front brake squeal which was a part wear issue and not a failure.
Update from Jul 25, 2025: Vehicle is just turning 70k on the odometer without another issue. It's a wonderful vehicle that has aged very well. I recently searched for a replacement (Genesis, Infiniti, Acura, Lexus, Cadillac, Lincoln) but could not find anything that really compares for under $50k. Yes a few were more responsive, but interiors felt cheaper other than the Lincolns and Genesis. Wish Infiniti continued to build the Q70. Apparently the automotive industry believes that sedans are no longer in demand.
