About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
I have a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo, currently under recall for a failing mounting point bracket on the rear suspension lower link due to excessive corrosion. Under the recall, I qualify to have a reinforcement bracket installed, however the inspection has revealed a deeper issue of extensive and unrepairable frame corrosion. This is not being addressed by the current recall and must be addressed immediately. This vehicle is not safe to operate. It will not pass inspection. Driving it will likely result in an accident and possibly death to the occupants.

Frame is completely rotted out. Brought in for recall on brackets and the dealer, referred to me by the Isuzu web site, sent me on my way without warning me of any problems. The next week, my mechanic said it was unsafe to drive and said it looked like it was driven in salt water for a year. I understand things wear out over time, but the structure of the vehicle needs to be strong and last more than 10 years. They are still selling these vehicles at dealerships without warning potential customers of their issues. This to me is a big problem and needs to be resolved before anyone gets hurt. I have two small children and would not drive them in this vehicle, but some people do not have the means to get around some other way. Toyota bought their frames from the same manufacturer that provided Honda and Isuzu with their frames and they offered to buy them all back, realizing that there was a problem. They recently just settled with that manufacturer for the faulty frames. This needs to be addressed swiftly and not by a voluntary recall issued by the company to try to appease or stall a consumer protection Agency.

1998 Isuzu Rodeo experienced brake failure. The brakes were intermittent. The brake pedal would go to the floor and lock up. A few days later the ABS light had come on. The problem was diagnosed as a rear brake sensor and was replaced. The molding on the driver door was loose, the latch on the console had broken, the sunvisor on the passenger side had fallen down, and the center caps on the front wheels had pitted. The consumer requested a buy back and or trade in.
