A yokohama geolander P225/75R16 H/T with about 17000 miles on a Honda passport 2000, suddenly blew out while driving at 60 mph in what appear to be according to sales person a case of tread separation. Tire was taken to the store where it was purchased and per shop manager, yokohama requested tire for inspection, not a response yet from manufacturer.

On 11/24/00, my wife and I were S/B on I-15 from las vegas to California at approx. 70mph. The vehicle was approx. 31 days old and purchased new. At the time of the accident there was approx. 800 miles on the odometer. We heard a "pop" sound come from the underneath the car and towards the passenger rear. Suddenly the car went out of control and we rolled 3/4 times and down two ditches. Witnesses reported seeing the treads of the tire separate. Treads were unbroken and still a complete circle. There was no obvious signs of cuts or punctures on the inside of the tread except on one side it looked like someone had cut treads off with a razor blade that was how clean the seperation was. California highway patrol officer booked the alloy wheel with sidewalls along treads into evidence. The officer said that he was going to chp's experts examine the tire for the cause. This should not have happened on a new tire.( dot number: Unknown tire size: 16 inch )
