Rodeo 4WD 6-cyl

  • 130,000 miles
2001 Isuzu Rodeo frame rusted completely through while my daughter was driving near boston MA. Thank god she is ok however all persons who handled the accident could not believe how rusted out it was. She was quite lucky she was in the right lane of 3 when it happened. The frame broke through on the passenger side in front of the rear wheel about 18 inches. At that point the car became unmanageable and swerved in all directions. The car was deemed of course undriveable and was towed to a junkyard. The kicker is my other daughter has the same car and year and also has a rotted frame. You never would guess looking at the car (unless) you look below. Darn shame someone needs to get these cars off the road and have Isuzu step up. Extremely dangerous.

After my wife came home from work, we decided to run to the local grocery store to get a few things. On our way back, driving at 25 mph we heard a loud noise and the car began to shake violently and pull to the right. I immediately pulled over and walked to a mechanic down the street and asked him to diagnose my vehicles' damage. He showed me that a passenger side rear bracket had completely rusted off of the frame. He then pointed out that the rest of the frame was also completely corroded to the point of putting your finger through it in certain areas. He said the damage was not repairable and the vehicle was now junk. It was only minutes before our ordeal that my wife was driving home at 55 mph. I can only imagine the outcome if this would have happened to her during this time.

I have recently purchased a 2001, Isuzu Rodeo from a private seller, and at the time of purchased the vehicle seemed like it was in a mint condition. The engine looked wonderful and the outside looked like it was well taken care of. A month after the purchase I have decided to put in new shocks all the way around. Once I started to look under the vehicle and remove the shocks I have come to discover that the frame of the car was in a terrible shape. The guy that sold the vehicle to me tried to hide the damage by undercoating and putting (bondo) on the "frame" to make it look like there was nothing wrong with it. Poking the frame with a screwdriver, I discovered that there were huge holes in it and chunks of the frame are completely missing. I was in a such unbelievable shock because I couldn't believe that this vehicle was still functional and wasn't sure what was exactly holding it up. I can say that the person that sold me the vehicle has obviously tricked me but the damage that was on the car was unbelievable. Everything else including the underbody of the car looked like it was in a pretty good shape but the frame and everything attached to it looked like it was falling off. I am scared to further poke and touch the frame because I feel like the whole car will fall apart on me and there is no way I will let my self or anyone in my family drive this car in this condition because it is completely unsafe and it is obvious that this has to be some kind of a manufacturer defect. After sweeping away several pounds of rust that just came off of the frame of my car, I am not sure if this problem is even repairable, but I just hope that there is something I can do in order to put this car back on the road.

I have a 2001 Rodeo with just 75,000 that I have been told not to drive due to rot on all of the frame rails. I can put my fingers through the holes where metal should be holding my truck together. There needs to be a recall by Isuzu like the one from Toyota where consumers are reimbursed in cash for the loss of their vehicles..

2001 Rodeo ls 80K miles failure of right rear sway bar bracket totally rusted from frame. Total frame rusted, gas tank mounts affected, along with front and rear suspension components. No advance warning of bracket failure or how bad the rustout really is, as rest of SUV is in excellent condition. Had sway bar bracket rewelded, but do not trust any other welded to frame components. I do not understand the delay in recalling these vehicles, and wish your Agency would get off their butts and do something for the owners of these SUV's this is a very dangerous situation and Isuzu/ Honda should be forced to make the owners whole on their good face purchase of what was a 25K+ auto when new. I am disgusted it is taking your Agency so long to make a decision in is what a very well documented failure.

Friday morning the 3rd of September I was driving to work when my Isuzu Rodeo started to pull to the left and the right. I noticed the steering wheel alignment was way off. When the pulling left and right stopped the steering wheel was back in alignment. I had plans to pick up a U-haul trailer and help my daughter to move into her apartment over the weekend for college. I left work and went to the bank for some money to help with travel costs. During the ride to the bank I kept questioning myself and the safety of the vehicle for the long journey to boston. As I was leaving the bank parking lot and turning onto RT16 white mountain highway I heard what sounded like a grinding, tearing sound. I immediately pulled over and inspected the car but didn't see any thing out of ordinary. I got back in the car and headed down white mountain highway. I was going about 35-40 mph when all of a sudden the car started jerking violently all over the road. I was on a two lane highway and barely avoided a head on collision. I had little to no control of the vehicle other then the brakes and was at the mercy of the vehicle until it slowed down and then I was able to steer the vehicle. After the car came to a rest I managed to slowly pull the vehicle into a parking lot. I got out of the car and again inspected the car for damage and noticed the rear stabilizer arm had rusted off the vehicle. I thank god that 1. I didn't get into an accident and 2. that it happened when it did and not driving down the road to boston at 60 - 65 mph. If this would have happened while pulling a trailer at those speeds I believe the three of us traveling in the vehicle would have been killed or seriously injured and any one else in close proximity would have been killed or seriously injured. If this is not acted on and taken care of soon someone or someone's somewhere will be seriously injured or killed.

The contact owns a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to a local mechanic for routine maintenance when the contact was informed that the rear frame was severely rusted and had corroded. The mechanic advised the contact that the vehicle was not safe to drive and because the frame was no longer being manufactured, there was no way to repair the failure. The vehicle was not repaired and was no longer being driven. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was approximately 149,000.

I have a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo. The car is immaculate in appearance until you look under it. I took it in for a oil change, and the technician actually took me down in the service bay to get a look at the frame. I couldn't believe it. I have a 4 year old daughter, and this is my only source of transportation besides a motorcycle. I am now afraid to drive my Isuzu. There must be a recall....
