  • 133,970 miles
My car is a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo. I am its 2nd owner and I purchased it from the estate of a deceased woman. It had very low mileage. A few days ago I noticed a jarring sound coming from the left rear side of metal making contact. I planned to take it to my mechanic for inspection early this week as I was intending to go on a long trip. On Saturday, August 28, my car swerved and I could tell that there was a major problem. I pulled into a parking lot and saw that a large flange attached to a rear axle stabilizer had completely disconnected from the frame. As I was not at all far from home I returned my car to my driveway. Upon closer inspection I saw that the metal of the left side frame of my car was like paper - completely disintegrating. My car is in great mechanical condition. I had my transmission rebuilt last year. I use it in my work as a professional musician to Transport my instruments. I have since learned that there have been widespread incidents of 1998-2002 Isuzu Rodeos having this metallurgical defect. It appears to be unrepairable. It seems that the engineers and metallurgists at Isuzu created a defect in their formulation of the steel for the frame. This car should and must be recalled, not only for the sake of those who suffer monetary loss due to the design flaw and the inability to use their vehicle, but also due to the safety concerns of those who are unaware of this defect and the risk of loss of control on a highway.

Rodeo 4WD 6-cyl

  • 138,000 miles
My daughter drove the vehicle 5 miles to work. On the way, the car "lurched" to the right and scared her. She made it safely but was afraid. When I arrived to inspect the car, the sway bar attaching the rear passenger's side axle to the frame was broken off due to rust on the frame. Significant rust has eaten the frame from about the driver's seat to the rear of the vehicle. The problem does not look repairable. Frustrating because I have take excellent care of the vehicle. Car is undrivable and a serious accident could have happened if the breakage had happened at higher speed.

2001 Isuzu Rodeo. After reading numerous complaints regarding frame rust issues, examined my vehicle. The frame is rusted through in many spots. Also, undercarriage shields have rusted through and fallen off in some places. The car was not taken to a shop, nor to a dealer - it would not pass inspection. This is the only car I have, and cannot afford even a used one in comparable state (less frame corrosion, of course). I am sure the issue has been there for quite some time. Current mileage is about 164K. This is by now is widely-reported, and Isuzu should issue a recall! the frame should be the last part to deteriorate under normal driving conditions. Isuzu should take care of it before someone gets hurt!!!

The vehicle was neither diagnosed for the failure nor repaired. The failure and current mileage was 67,000.

My 2001 Rodeo only has 73,000 miles and is otherwise in mint condition. I never noticed any problems with it until I took it in for an inspection. The complete frame is rusted and you can actually put your fingers through it. I am thankful that I found out now as we just purchased snowmobiles and a trailer that we would have been hauling come winter time. Isuzu needs to do something about this. My vehicle is now sitting in the yard and now need to find other transportation.

Rodeo 4WD 6-cyl

  • 100,000 miles
2001 Isuzu Rodeo purchased 2006 with approx 78000 miles. Beginning in 2008 vehicle has failed inspection for frame rot, beginning 2 feet forward of the drag link mounts, and running to the very end of the frame on both sides. Top, bottom and sides of frame rails involved, especially around the drag link mounts. Has required extensive welding and reinforcement each year. Have spent over $1000 so far. Body condition is excellent, and performance is likewise, but the frame is obviously made from recycled Yugo. This vehicle would have been on track for 200,000 miles and resale for some value then; now it is worthless except for whatever time it can be kept safe and legal by sinking more welding $ in it. Current mileage is 138,000. This frame rot case is a perfect parallel to the Toyota truck recall, and should also be subject to a full frame recall or buyback program.

I own a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo. I have had no injuries or accidents yet! I was having trouble with the brakes in the rear of the vehicle. The gentleman that does my inspection had put my vehicle up on the rack and informed me that my frame in the rear is not only completely rusted, but also has hole in the frame that I can put my fingers through. Areas of the frame are also cracking. My vehicle will not pass inspection because of the frame. He also advised me that if I should get rearended that the frame would not hold up to protect me.now, I can't get it inspected, my inspection is due at end of August, nor will I be able to trade it in because of the holes and the cracking of the rusted frame. I would not be able to even try to sell my Rodeo, due to the fact of some other person getting injured or worse! if you are able, please advise me of what I can do. I feel that the Isuzu company should correct this problem before something extremely bad happens to someone. Mean while my vehicle will have to sit due to the fact that I am now truly afraid to drive it.

The contact owns a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo. The contact stated that while driving at any speed the vehicle would loose power and stall, especially while driving over a bump in the road. The cruise light and the transmission light started blinking when the failure occurred. The dealer could not determine what caused the failure to occur and stated that he should consider changing the wiring harness. The vehicle was taken a local mechanic where the wiring harness was repaired at the owners expense for $3,000. The contact also stated that recently he heard a noise in the rear of the vehicle. The local mechanic stated that the rear end was corroded and covered with rust which was the source of the noise. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000. The current mileage was approximately 96,000.

Rodeo

  • 134,000 miles
I own a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo with only 134,000 miles on it... engine is perfectly fine, nothing wrong at all. All of a sudden, I'm driving back from the pittsburgh international airport in western pa to my residence about 45 miles away on a very busy highway with about 5 very close friends in the car, and the control arm on the rear left side of the vehicle completely rusted-off... we're lucky that I was only going about 30 mph as we were just existing the airport premises and not on the speed limit 55 highway yet. Even going only 20 - 30 mph, I completely lost control of my vehicle and everyone in the car was very scared... it was as though I was driving on sheets of ice meanwhile it was the middle of summer! I weaved in and out of lanes of slow-moving traffic (thank god) and had to pull over to the shoulder and limp my way going 5-10 mph to the nearest exit, call a tow truck, spend $200 to have it towed to only find out it needed to be trashed as the whole entire suspension/undercarriage/frame is completely rusted! the vehicle is not a flood car! however, it seems as though it is in worse shape than the titanic after sitting in salt water at the bottom of an ocean for decades! the control arm completely rusted off the frame and after examining the other side's control arm, with one minor kick or pull that one is ready to pull off as well! it's hanging on by a small tiny piece of metal that's not completely rusted off. With a kick it'll fall right off, too. The car is now worthless and I have nowhere to turn, no transportation and I can't get any money to sell a car with no frame! it's unbelievable that a car only 9 years old can rust like it's 100 years old. I'm very frustrated and need some assistance and justice. Thank you.
