I own a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo. On July 20, 2008, I was driving down the highway with my kids. I took a right hand turn onto a side street when the trailing arm bracket let go. I could not drive forward due to metal hanging on ground. I had to call tow truck. The driver told me if it had broken while on highway, it would have rolled over. The safety of my children could have been jeopardized. I have owned vehicle for 4 years. I had vehicle towed to my husband's welding shop where he spent 3 days welding and repairing frame rails. My husband has 25 years welding experience, and in his opinion he would have thrown vehicle away, if we didn't have so much money invested into the vehicle. We feel that anyone who owns one of these vehicles should have the undercarriage inspected by someone who is familiar with metal breakdown and rust issues. You would never know by looking at the body of the car that this problem was lurking underneath!

The contact owns a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo. After inspecting the rear of the vehicle, the contact noticed a hole in the frame which showed rust throughout the entire frame. Due to the rust, the vehicle was not in drivable condition. It was towed to a welding shop where the frame was replaced. The contact called both the authorized dealer and the manufacturer who stated that the failure was normal wear and tear and there were no recalls on the vehicle. The current and failure mileages were approximately 87,000.

I own a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo which also has all rust and rot throughout the frame and under carriage--I was in a car accident last year, I was at a complete stop at a red light and rear-ended, and the rusted and rotted carriage did not give me protection and I took the brunt of the injury. The auto body shop said I was very lucky that the car that hit me did not come through the car and end up in my back seat. Other than under my car, the car is in excellent condition and only has 65,000 miles on it.

2001 Isuzu Rodeo lse (original owner) - brought vehicle in for routine service on 05-05-2010; service manager called later that day and said, "it's not worth spending anything on this vehicle since the frame is very badly rotting away." He also said the vehicle should be parked and not driven since it's, "an accident waiting to happen and serious injury or death could result if the frame fractures while driving." I was shocked to say the least as this was the first time I was warned of this issue. Upon showing up at the dealership he (the service mgr) showed my where a the frame was rusted away and a 1" X 3" hole was rotted through the frame nearest the rear drivers side suspension component bracket mount. He also mentioned the frame appears weak in many other places and repair if possible would be in excess of $10,000, if that is parts where even available. Other than that the car is in great shape, but now rendered junk! appears to me a frame should last more than 9 years...H E L P ! ! !

Rodeo 4WD 6-cyl

  • 140,000 miles
I was driving my 2001 Isuzu Rodeo to meet my daughter at her school. Without any warning at all the car started swaying out of control and I could hear something dragging underneath. When I pulled over to look my frame has broken at the trailing arm. I had it towed to an auto body shop and was told that the whole frame is rotted. They told me that it was unsafe to drive. They ended up welding it back together as I could not afford to buy another car, but it is still rotted all around the entire frame. Its just a matter of time before something else happens. This is a safety issue that needs to be addressed asap. If I had still been on the highway I probably would have been killed or have killed someone else. I can't believe how many complaints there are and was shocked when I saw channel 5 news story with the same exact vehicle as mine. Please push for a recall.

I have a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo, which we have paid nearly 30K for the vehicle. SUV became very sloppy during steering and handling, and have started to find many pieces of rust on the garage floor. The rear part of the frame, near the rear wheels are totally rusting through, making the vehicle a very dangerous SUV to drive. Its a major accident just waiting to happen. Something needs to be done. We can not afford a vehicle replacement at this point in time. Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo that the frame is rusting through where the rear control arms attach to the frame on both sides. I understand that this is a problem from reading many blogs and forums. What action can I take? this seems to be an unrepairable thing. I am not driving the vehicle any more for fear of the frame breaking in half and loosing control.

Driving Isuzu Rodeo on interstate at 60 mph when going around large turn the rear end of the SUV began to get very loose. Felt like a tire was going to fall off. After losing control I began to slow down and exit off interstate. I looked around SUV and saw nothing unusual until I got under the SUV and realized the rear stability bar had rusted completely from the frame and the frame its self had many holes rusted though it.

I purchased this vehicle brand new and have driven back and forth to work (10 miles R/T) for eight 1/2 years. Am now finding that the rear half of the frame is completely rotted out by excessive corrosion. It only has 73K miles on it, there is absolutely no rust on the body and is otherwise in excellent condition. When I dished out $30K for this vehicle, I certainly expected to be able to keep it longer than this - this is wrong and something should be done about it.

I live in Connecticut and own a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo. It has 81,000 miles on it. While changing my winter wheels to summer wheels I noticed larger rust spots on the rear frame. As I proceeded to clean the rust off so I can coat the frame. A large hole opened up under the rust spot. I have checked online and noticed a trend with this model truck from Isuzu. The rest of the truck is perfect Isuzu needs to do something. Toyota had a problem with there frames and they are replacing them.

I made a left hand turn at about 35 to 40 mph. Just before I was proceeding forward again, I heard an odd noise and my vehicle began to sway back and forth like a sea vessel. I had no warning at all. I thought that maybe my wheel was some how coming lose so I pulled over to find that the rear control arm had completely rotted of the frame on the drivers side of my 2001 Rodeo. I called Isuzu because a nine year old vehicle should not have things rotting off. Isuzu told me that they weren't going to do anything about it...period. I can't have it fixed because all the frames from 2001 Rodeo's are rotted and Isuzu isn't making anything available to remedy the problem. Luckily, I wasn't going very fast and no one was hurt. Had this happened while I was on the highway, I would be dead for sure. This vehicle is a major safety issue on our countries roads and highways!
