About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
The tank shield has completed rusted off. There are many complaints online about rust problems with the vehicle. Called Isuzu and got no support. More of less they told me we don't care about your problem. I have tried to find a replacement part but Isuzu stated they no longer make the part. Unable to fine part online or in any junk yards.

While rotating the tires, it was noted that the entire rear frame of the car was rusted through and cracking. This car had a recall in 2010 that was related to corrosion and the dealer that did the inspection and "repair" only applied an anti-corrosive compound to the rear linkage where it attached to the frame. We knew that the frame was rusting severely at that time and mentioned it to the dealer. He said the recall only involved the linkage and not the frame. Now the frame is so corroded that there is no way it can be reinforced because there is no metal left to take a weld. The whole frame will need to be replaced at considerable cost. There is low mileage on our car and outwardly appears pristine. We don't understand why the dealer wouldn't report the frame damage as the linkage would soon fail if the frame rotted away! we would have taken a buy back at that time if it had been offered as stated in the recall notice as follows: "Isuzu will notify owners by mail, and start the recall either in late July or early August, according to a company spokesperson. The NHTSA acknowledged the recall in a letter to Isuzu on Friday. At the dealership, inspections and repairs will be free of charge, as long as the affected SUV is no more than 10 years old. Special restrictions and rules may apply to vehicles older than ten years. Vehicles will be inspected for signs of corrosion. If little or no corrosion is found, the area will be treated with an anti-corrosive compound. For vehicles with corrosion that has damaged the rear suspension lower link bracket and hindered the connection to the vehicle frame, a reinforcement bracket will installed. If the damage is beyond repair, Isuzu will offer to repurchase the vehicle based on the kelley blue book "private party" price." We feel Isuzu should make good on the repurchase as the "repair" was a joke.

My car frame has totally rusted threw back behind the rear wheels, they have a recall on it, yet they wont take responsibility if its a couple inches back further, they told me not to drive it that it was unsafe, and they would buy it back for 1080.00.I bought it last year for 5400.00.its in very good condition.I said no..I want the value of the car price. What can I do to get help in this case?

Total frame rusted out on 2001 Isuzu Rodeo. I was told not to drive it. Only 72,000 miles on it. Isuzu only recalled the brackets attached to the frames and are sending people back out on to the road with rotting frames. There needs to be another recall for the frames so that we don't all have to buy new vehicles. Isuzu is cheating people on the buy back amounts. There is no fix to this problem except for replacing the bad section of frame or in some cases, the entire frame.

The contact owns a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo. The vehicle was included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number 10V436000 (suspension:rear). The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where it was repaired under the recall. Upon receiving the vehicle from the dealer the contact was told by a tow truck driver that a bracket was mounted over a severely corroded frame. The failure and current mileages were 104,000. The VIN was unavailable.

Had my 2001 Isuzu Rodeo with 56K and in mint condition in for yearly inspection. To my surprise they failed it...for a rotted frame. It has holes completely through it. They deemed it dangerous to drive telling me I would have been killed if were driving at the time. I have done some research and I just can't believe nothing is being done about this. I'm having a hard time swallowing that this may be a total loss for me. I had plans on keeping this vehicle for well over 100K miles and I just got to 56K. I guess someone has to die for anyone to take action. I feel that I should be entitled to some type of buy it. This is unreal I bought this brand new and it's been garage kept I just can't believe it. I had to get this towed and it's now sitting at the dealership and I'm awaiting an outcome.

The bottom of my car fell out on my 2001 Isuzu Rodeo while driving the car. The car tilted to the right, it felt like the tires fell off the car. I had to have my car towed to my mechanic. He then inspected the car and told me that whole bottom of the car was rotted out, and it was not fixable.

2001 Isuzu Rodeo the frame rusted causing the rear suspension to fall off during driving. The vehicle then swerved out of control. Luckily due to myemergency vehicle driver training I was able to avoid and accident. This needs to be addressed before someone gets seriously injured or killed. I have pictures of faulty frame and suspension connection.

No prior warning until a loud bumping noise at the rear of the vehicle & lost ability to control rear of the vehicle, no crash due to traveling at low rate of speed & able to pull off highway. Left rear bolts connecting body to frame had broken away allowing body to move back & forth on the frame, unable to control steering. Upon inspection by mechanic was told left rear was broken completely away, the right rear was also ready to break & the area around gas tank was also very fatigued. Vehicle unable to be repaired due to safety concerns, metal extremely fatigued for a vehicle of this age, vehcile had to be junked! body of vehicle in excellent shape, but frame like that of a vehicle 30 or more years old!

The contact owns a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo ls. The contact noticed that the entire frame of the vehicle was completely rotted out. The failure was discovered while the vehicle was undergoing an inspection, which it failed due to the rust. The contact found no recalls for this issue, but she believes that the frame should not rot so easily due to the age of the vehicle and its mileage. The vehicle cannot be repaired and is unable to be driven. The current and failure mileages were 87,000. 4/01/09 updated 04/06/09.

The contact owns a 2001 Isuzu Rodeo. The contact stated that the torque bar has become rotted and is hanging from the vehicle. She first noticed the rust approximately four months ago on the driver's side. Currently, the passenger side is beginning to experience the same failure. The vehicle has been parked for at least six years in a garage, but the contact feels that the vehicle is not old enough to be rotting. She feels that the rotten torque bar could cause a crash. While driving 25 mph, the vehicle swerved and dropped down due to the failed torque bar. The current and failure mileages were 52,000. Updated 2/23/09 updated 02/25/09.
