In October 2018 I had recently purchased a used 2018 Jaguar F-pace. I was backing into the garage and noticed a bag laying in my path. I put the car in park (I thought), left the driver door open, got out of the car and walked into the garage to pick up the bag. As I bent over to pick up the bag, I heard a noise as the Jaguar was coming toward me when the open door of the Jaguar hooked onto the other car in the garage. I had no escape path but the door stopped the car from coming all the way to the wall. If it had not, I would have been trapped against the back wall of the garage. There was significant damage to the door, , fender, hood, etc from the impact and the other car had bumper and other damage. This was caused by the dial shifter not going all the way to park, but feeling like it was engaged. I had the door open, the car was new to me, so there were dings from the car, but I didn't recognize them as "not in park" but thought it was just because the door was open.
