About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
Recently (10/16/08) purchased a 2001 S-type 4.0 with 74316 mi. 2nd day I had it transmission started slipping. Within 1 week had to be rebuilt. All coils replaced and #4 & #5 keep going bad. Dealership stated coils were broken. Sent home with broken coils. Window regulators needed to be replaced. Check engine light on dealership stated no problem. Poor service, poor quality.

I was ready to park, I hadn't even had a chance to take off seat belt or turn off ignition when there was a sudden acceleration. Car took off like a bat out of hell. Stepped on brake, car would not stop. Finally it stopped at embankment with the help of a chamisa tree. Car was taken to only Jaguar repair in New Mexico, that being melloy Jaguar in albuquerque. It was taken there twice, the assessment no problem with car; no codes could relate to sudden acceleration, blame was on me, with melloy stating it could have been me stepping on gas and brake at same time. Lame excuse, I should have had the code machine on me; I have driven for over thirty eight years and have never had a problem with sudden acceleration. My mother was with me when this happened. It was a miracle that we were not hurt. This car was purchased in November of 2006, it was a used car. Car had approximately 25,500 miles. From the time we purchased vehicle, we had put approximately 11,000 miles in a year when car started acting up. This summer, car, when stopped, started to take off on it's own. Car in front of me stopped it. Daughter was with me. Husband also had an incident. After everything I've read with NHTSA, I am of the belief that this will not be solved, but rather blamed on human error. Eventhough, I believe that this will be the conclusion, I believe, with clear conscience that I tried to save lives. On one last note, I have learned that when you think that there is a problem, try to bring a solution. I think the main problem is with the cruise control which is also linked to the throttle position sensor. I think the problem is with the computer telling vehicle to open at full throttle when the vehicle is at full stop. This can just happen randomly.
