Prior to the incident the Jaguar drove perfectly fine and had no signs of any problems. The vehicle never indicated any problems or had any lights on the dash. I was driving on the highway when my 2013 Jaguar XF had completely lost power and ground to a stop. The car was doing approximately 117km/h when there was a random grind noise and the car completely lost power. The traffic was dense and I had lost all control of the car. I was forced to move to the far right of the shoulder of the highway. The car stalled while slowing down and would not start at all when I attempted to restart it.
I was left stranded for 7 hours waiting for a tow and had the vehicle towed to a Jaguar Dealer. Finally, when towed, I called Jaguar North America and reported the problem to which I was directed to get a diagnostic report for the car for any action to be taken since the vehicle was not under warranty as it is a 2013 XF. I would like to highlight that the car had no engine light or any oil light prior to failure or even after a complete lock-up. After the "diagnostic", Jaguar reported that the crank would not spin and told me that just going off of that the engine is seized and needs replacing. The news was unfortunate as I could not believe that a vehicle (being a 2013 and only having about 114xxx kms on the engine) it would have failed completely.
I contacted Jaguar North America once again and wrote to them as well. They first denied my claim at the representative level with the reason being the vehicle is not under warranty. After pushing my representative that goes by the name of Kwasi O at the CRC Ext; 131007, he finally agreed to move the case forward to a regional manager position where a manager by the name of Joan would review the case and deny or approve it. At this point, it's been a month, and they are still "reviewing the claim" and I have not been given an update. I called back and was told my representative will call me back, however, I did not receive any calls. I was initially quoted $25,000 CAD for an engine replacement at the Brampton Jaguar by a service representative by the name of Muzamil Mughal. I am shocked that Jaguar would not have approved my case, to begin with, and do not see an engine failing randomly as being a problem or a safety concern. Such a big name but no accountability or customer service for those without a warranty. I have owned this car for about 6 months not and within the first 5 months of ownership, it's given out on me.
The previous history:
History confirms the car was serviced at Buds Jaguar in Oakville up until 97,000 km and the history confirmed normal services were made and the vehicle never reported any problems. Jaguar of Oakville then sold/auctioned the vehicle to a private dealer. The private then sold to me. The Vehicle was serviced once again and actually received 2 oil changes in my ownership as I do take care of my vehicles and did them at approx 7,000kms each time.
Jaguar claims:
Jaguar claimed that the engine failed due to not servicing. The oil filter was then pulled from the engine and showed clear proof that the engine oil was still in good condition and that there were in fact metal shavings found in the oil filter. The claim changed to the dealer suggesting that there was a preexisting problem... then when the service history was brought up and confirmed to be fully serviced by Jaguar in Budds Oakville and no signs of any pre-existing problems were reported. To completely shut me out, Jaguar insisted that the case be closed on the basis that I did not have a warranty
Many owners have reported timing chain and spun bearing failures causing complete engine failure. After speaking with many mechanics they have also confirmed that it is a common problem and that upgrades have been made available to solve these problems. My question is that if Jaguar knows about such a problem and there is a solution for it, for those that suffer a catastrophic failure, why not cover them. About 5-6 months ago I purchased this car for 25k and now I have to spend the same amount once again and am left with no option but to just ditch the vehicle as is to a complete loss on my end. I should have invested in a new one instead had I known it was a hit or miss with these cars.
Overall, I believe that Jaguar did a horrible job of handling this specific situation and I am disgusted at the fact that they do not see it being a problem that my engine had stalled in the middle of driving and it could have been catastrophic had it happened in a situation that could not have been handled by myself. The engine was seized and predicted for a complete failure. I believe that there was no driver error or any error in my maintenance made on my end and that this particular engine was a defective piece, and a time bomb waiting to blow up.
I will update this complaint once Jaguar brings me a final verdict and possible fix.
