Driving a vehicle with 4 matching tires bought in 10/07, only 6,000 miles on them. Driver was on the highway, heard a loud noise, thought his transmission fell out or something as drastic and as loud. Pulled off the exit, which was right there thank god, looked at car, tire had a 4-6" gaping ragged hole in sidewall. Rear tire, drivers side. He could have been injured fatally. Tire was obviously defective Jeep was towed to place of original purchase. Walmart in waterford ct. They tested the thread on the other 3 tires and told my son they'd replace the blown tire as the thread on the others was fine. I told M son we will not accept that as: 1. they'd all come from the same defective batch, and 2, did not want mismatching tread on tires. Mind you, they felt the size of the tire was good for car at purchase, and then also today, the day one tire blew a gaping hole in sidewall. Son insisted, I also told him to speak to asst. Manager pat, who told me she'd look into recalls from that batch. They then agreed they'd replace all four. But, they said, (these were the same tech's who sold the tires and installed them on the Jeep, ) that the tires were too wide and rubbing on the bumper, that's why it blew. Rear tires don't turn so can't rub. As I said before they wanted to put 3 matching (now incorrect size) just minutes earlier. So. I came, took pictures of the tire. 2 cameras to be safe. If you want them to save the tire. It was 3:30 pm when we left there so they may still have it. The dot # on the new tires is hhc62U. May be same as old ones."????" when we bought and had the tires installed at walmart they certainly didn't object to going from a 225 to a 235 as they said the wheel could handle that size. Now they're placing the blame on me for buying that size. They said it was fine. I'd like to add I'm afraid of these tires completely. If I had a choice I'd have chosen a different brand to be safe. They should pay for an alignment also. Thanks.

This was a replacement for the recall tires. I have made two attempts with Firestone corporate headquarters to resolve this problem. I have a letter discribing the problm of tread seperation and only asking for $330 need to replace tires. This was a tread speration at 65mph. Not a blow out. Can provide letter with facts of case with pictures upon request. Please help me resolve this matter. Thanks. (dot number: Vnhl-4100 tiresize: P235/75R15)

I purchased some Firestone tires wilderness atiii size 30X9.50R15lt for my 1998 Jeep Cherokee on 9/8/99. Since the day they were purchased, I've experienced problems with the tires. My truck drove differently. My tires gave a knocking sound and the best way I know to describe the problem, it seemed as though they were about to come aloose from my vechicle. I went to my local Firestone dealer and they assured me the tires were "ok" each time I went. I visited a Firestone dealer on 8/7/00 and he stated as a customer satisfaction gesture, he would allow me to trade my tires in and get some replacement tires. The tires were to be in on Thursday 8/10/00 and they would be mounted on my vechicle at that time. Firestone did a recall on 8/9/00 and when I contacted the dealer, he stated he could not replace my tires because they only had instructions to replace a certain tire and my tire was not on the list. I urged him to replace them as we had agreed and allow me to pay the difference but he refused (this was the original plan anyway). He then proceeded to hang up. I took my vechicle in on 8/7 and 8/8 so they could test drive the vechicle to see how the tires performed. Each time they assured me the tires were "ok". to date, I have not had any accidents from these tires. However, I urge your office to investigate the idea of Firestone expanding this recall. I plan to purchase some more tires because I tired of fighting with this company about my complaints. I haven't been satisfied with these tires since they were purchased. I sent an E-mail to Firestone on 8/8 and on 8/7 I contacted the Consumer Affairs dept and the receptionist did a 3-way conference call with the manager of my local Firestone company on rodney parham rd. In little rock. His name was dave (?) and he told me to bring my truck in and he would do a replacement. After the recall was announced, he change his mind. I have not heard anything from the company, nor do I expect to. I do want this compliant logged.*

Vehicle has had an on going problem since the 4th day after I bought it, it has a vibration at 55-65 mph. The tires have been balanced countless times, the drive shaft has been replaced the transfercase has been lowered, the wheels have been replaced, the tires were replaced, the transfer case has been overhauled countless times in at dealer to repair and still has not been corrected. Additionally brakes pads and rotors were replaced for a pulsation, transfer case output seal was replaced for a leak, and little odds and ends. ( dot number: Tire size: P225/75/15 )
